V4.2 - What is this?

I'm just beavering away in Blender with Victoria 4.2, and I've noticed a mesh that runs across the top of her eyes, and part of her forehead.

What is it, and what is it for?

Trying to kick-start my shaky memory -- I believe that was something that was added in V4.2 (vs. 4.1) to allow the brows to be painted separately from the skin texture, which never really caught on as it didn't follow morphs precisely enough.

I cannot say I ever have seen a texture that uses it

I have myself added a few transmapped images to it for forehead tattoos and tiaras

It is, in deed, a brow.  I actually have several figures that use it.  Generally, it is set to be invisible.  A few of Raiya's figures have a separate brow prop since they were combi generation 4/genesis figures.

the generation 3 figures have a scalp and pubic mesh overlay that's similar and I use to grow Carrara hair on (the scalp I don't do the other sorts of renders)

Yeah, iirc, the eyebrow overlay was added to 4.2. The earlier V4s didn't have it.

Which is why it had to be done as a a bone - if it had been added to the head mesh it would hav broken existing head morphs (Daz could no doubt have fixed theirs quite quickly, but others may have had more trouble).

Thank you for all of the replies.

I had a feeling that it was a brow of some sort. But when I was looking over the figure in Blender, I couldn't find it listed in Vertex Groups, or Material Properties.

I'm trying to create morphs for V4.2, but everything I do always results in the "no deltas" error. I know some people/vendors still make V4 characters, but I'm finding it impossible... :(

     Thanks, again.

It's been a while, but try the vertex count only option in Morph Loader.

It may have been a while, but you're spot on. yes Thank you smiley

Although I can't help but wonder if it's easier to make morphs for V4(.2) in Poser.
