DAZ, A Bundle is NOT "ALL-NEW" if 98% of it has been sold at another store

I'm beginning to wonder... are the DAZ ad people even aware that most of these "all new": products that they're spotlighting from Pamawo have been sold at another store for years with only the most minor of differences?  Case in point, todays "ALL NEW Arabian nights bundle," which, except for outift fits for Genesis 9 and notching the base price up 30% by $11, is exactly the same as the bundle I bought from Pamawo at Renderosity over a year ago, down to the same promotional images and the description.  https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/158137/scheherazades-arabian-nights-bundle-ds ; https://www.daz3d.com/scheherazades-arabian-nights-dforce-bundle

To be clear, I've no problem with a vendor moving a product from store to store... that's their perogative.  However, spotlighting and advertising something as "all new" when the only new addition is a simple clothing fit for a new figure seems really strange when there are many other vendors launching actual new product at the same time.

all new for DAZ. Yeah, the pricing of the stuff moved over here is substantially higher, the girl's bedroom as well

In the fullness of time, it will be a bargain here, too - Likely a better bargain here than there.

  • This is a bit dangerous-ish either direction. Just a few days ago I was buying several Dinoraul creatures at Rendo, when I suddenly got the eerie feeling of deja-vu. Sure enough, I already got some of them from here back around 2017.
And worse, I was interested in the Girl's Room product just introduced here, but while 'debating with myself' over putting in it my 'want-list,' I realized I already have it from Rendo, and worse, just used it in one of my favorite images about a half year ago!
Aging brain, time to slow down and think, I think.

And it's something that seems to be becoming more common as more artists are playing musical stores or selling the same items at different stores at the same time, especially when they sometimes actually do produce a new product in between the re-releases.  Toss in the fact that often the vendors are changing their names as well so one also has to track that Vendor X at store A is the same person as Vendor Y at Store B... and there's at least one frustrating artist who has not only bounced back and forth between DAZ and Rendo several times, but who recently changed his Rendo vendor name on top of that.  At least DAZ has a 30 day exchange policy, but it's definitely become a case of "let the buyer beware"...

I agree, it's not a new bundle. I also purchased it when it was sold at Renderosity.

Sounds like you all who bought it cheaper elsewhere a year ago made out.

    Hello,

As a general rule, I don't usually participate in forum discussions as my English isn't very good, and I prefer to let debates unfold since everyone has their own opinions. However, this time, I feel the need to intervene because I find some of the comments unacceptable. There's talk of denigrating the work of content creators for DAZ.

Cybersox, No, it's not just about "minor differences" or a simple adjustment to fit a new version. If I had simply used the "auto-fit" function in DAZ Studio, the product wouldn't be at this level of quality or price. It wouldn't even have been offered for Genesis 9! It would have remained compatible with Genesis 8.

Contrary to what you might think, this represents considerable work. Just go into the product's DATA folder to see a specific geometry for G9. Yes, the garment has been completely remade for G9, with the challenge of replicating it exactly, but in reality, this involves an entirely new retopology. It's not just an adaptation from Genesis 8 to Genesis 9; it's truly a garment designed for G9. It's not just a change in silhouette but a transformation of morphology and even size. You must have noticed that G9 rigging is different, for example, splines 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.

Countless hours of work are invested in these creations, with the additional challenge of replicating them identically. It's also important to understand the quality requirements imposed by DAZ. The no-return policy for product defects is a priority at DAZ. I can assure you that product presentation tests are rigorous, in the interest of buyer satisfaction. Some elements of the vignette have been redesigned and optimized, such as the bed, the walls, etc. This is true for this vignette and for the sci-fi room as well. (where even decorative elements like computers, armchairs, books, and even pizza boxes have been revisited.)

Cybersox, I find that your remarks greatly underestimate the work of PA. Moreover, you say that the product is expensive... Try to find a complete set for G9 at $11 including textures and jewelry accessories. On the contrary, I believe that PA (and I'm not just speaking about myself) provide remarkable and high-quality work that is unfortunately sometimes underestimated. All work deserves pay, and your remarks, Cybersox, seem to downplay the importance of this investment in time and talent, which, believe me, is real work and not just entertainment or a hobby.

    Merci

    Patrick / PAMAWO

That does shed light on the issue. Thank you Patrick/PAMAWO for your statement.

That could be with stacked discounts or something. Not really sure. Frankly. the terms of some Daz promos melt my brain. And you know that sometime this year, the price will likely be lower than that.

The $11 is a reference to the first message and it's the difference between the price of the old G8 only bundle ($31.80) and the price of the new G8+G9 bundle ($42.99).

Independently from all the remarks and justifications, I always find it annoying when packages are moved from one store to another and expanded because the ones who bought the first package have to buy the same package a second time to get the added product. So, I will proceed the way I generally proceed in such cases: I skip the new version. Sorry, but it's a matter of fact. No anger, nor claim, though. Just to give my personal opinion.

you win some or you lose some

I had wishlisted it at Renderosity but am more likely to end up buying it here in some future deal

    just how it works

those happy with their purchase at Renderosity don't suffer just because something has been improved and sold here at a later date, they still got what they wanted at the time at a price they wanted

it has gone the other way too with former DAZ PAs moving to Renderosity

at least these have the same names, the products that change name with completely different promotions are the ones owners of lots of content risk accidentally repurchasing and that's better to remedy at DAZ than at Rendo

  • UnseenUnseen Posts: 651

Yes, you are right, it's a win and lose game and I lost. I will thus be more careful in the future and not just at Renderosity. :)

    I'll be honest.
When Pamawo first came to Daz, I was so thrilled.  I'm a big fan of his work at Rendo.
I certainly recognized the Asian Vignette, because I have in my runtime. Furthermore, I was worried that it was simply the changing of brokerages until I checked the actual promos and the read-me.  There I could see all the changes that had been made.
I am still super chuffed that Patrick is now selling at Daz, and I'm looking forward to all his updated new sets that I can add to my runtime.
Welcome to Daz3d PAMAWO, I can't wait to see what you will make next!

This. I might even re-buy the revisions, and as I said in a different post, I want to see his future here. I've always loved his stuff, always will.

Hello everyone. Just my 2 cents on this topic, hence I myself have updated several products to newer figures, after customer's request or just my wishes. Although it could look as easy, believe me that sometimes the update/fit/adaptation is harder than crafting a new product. It's extenuating, sometimes boring, and you never know if it will pay off the efforts. Revisit every file, texture, morph... Re-make them, re-test, it's a lot of work. Without any sure rewards. Best of luck to Pamawo and all the vendors that create, update, refit and try all the available ways to keep on with the 3D art.

I should probably keep my lips zipped, but...

    1. Dear  PAMAWO... You ABSOLUTELY deserve to be paid for your work and have every right to place value on it. Please, don't let forum complaints burden your mind too much. heart

    2. Dear Forum... I love you guys but sometimes I don't understand you. Artists in every realm are facing very real threats to their hard work and perceived value due to things like AI and a sporadic and unpredictable economy. You KNOW  this... I genuinely feel sad when I think about a day when this all disappears. When it no longer becomes viable for creators to create for us "hobbyists". Let's not rush it, eh?

Sincerely and all my love, etc..

Personally I'm glad to see creators chiming in and this topic brought up. I bought the set originally over at Rendo (LOVE it!) and was happy to see stuff coming to Daz too and wondered what the differences might be. Thanks for taking time Pamawo and Fabiana (love your stuff too!) for sharing some of what goes into it. Knowing that there are differences makes me inclined to pick it up here eventually too- again love, love that Arabian set and how well it works for male and female. And Fabiana if you moved your entire catalog over to DA I would likely be rebuying it as well especially if some of the older stuff gets upgraded to work with the newer generations but no pressure I'm just glad I get to play with the awesome things you all have made :)

I broadly agree with your points. Daz taught me how to shop here with their sales and policies. So, I don't feel bad shopping here the way I do and Daz doesn't mind taking my money. I assume the artists get paid. So, It's all win-win, really.

Well, this was today's news on the Phillip DeFranco Show (start @ 3:15)

It's really already too late... so I appreciate our lovely PA's for as long as we have them. heart

There is a lot I can say about that, and I'm only going to say that the future is not written and we don't really know how any of this will play out. So, I have a shiny new gift card - The largest one I've ever bought - And it's getting spent here on stuff PAs made. That's it.

  • davesodaveso Posts: 7,005

I would like to ad its great to see a couple PAs communicating in the forums. I wish more would and more often, as well as DAZ staff --- like the old days.

  • @PAMAWO

I hope you do not allow yourself to be affected by negative comments. Scheherazade's Arabian Nights is one of the most gorgeous settings I've ever purchased. I didn't even have a need for it; it was just too gorgeous not to buy and I'll create a need for it :) I think most people are of of the position that if you keep on doing what you're doing, we'll keep buying. You're an incredible talent, among the best here, in my opinion.

  • UnseenUnseen Posts: 651

Personally, I will wait to see completely new creations by PAMAWO because there is no need for me to buy a package again just to get an addon to what I already own, no matter how beautiful it is or how long it took to create before being ready to go again. I also think that Cybersox was right to start the thread because it allows everyone to post opinions, even if they are different and if they don't always please everybody. And honestly, I just prefer to privilege totally new content. I mean packages I have not yet purchased anything from at another store. Now, everyone does whatever they want, but I think it's a good thing to have such debates because it allows people to explain their own points of view. Radio silence from me after this post.

I don't remember seeing outrage when other more established PAs revise and update their older products for compatibility with a new generation.

I like seeing Pamavo here, I like shopping here more and I could care less if the base price here is higher than what it was in other stores... The other stores have such lame discounts wink
