iray's interactive mode

playing around with this "interactive mode" i became highly pleased on the particular style of lighting & shadows i was moseying around with, but the lack of shadows (occlusion) seemed to effect the hair, even after a 4 hour render; the hair was barely rendered & it had some type of fuzzy/cruncy look to it. is that because of the lack of occlusion? has anyone ever played around with this interactive mode? i can barely find any posts about it, honestly.

Are you using 3Delight or Iray?

Try a different shader for the hair, preferably one that is specifically intended for Iray. Even if you apply the Iray uber shader to the hair, aspects such as the transparency map may be designed for 3DL or even Poser. These can yield poor results. Products like Slosh's UHT Iray hair shader may help improve the look in both Interactive and Photoreal modes.

In my Interactive/Photoreal comparison I used a toon character with toon hair, and you still see some issues where the rendering of the hair is imperfect in Interactive mode. I intentionall didn't change any shader settings, but you may find that you need to experiment.
