Feature article about Nvidia in WIRED mag late Feb 2024...

I came across a fairly recent article about Nvidia in Conde Nast's "Wired" magazine. I had a devil of a time reading it. Right now THIS MINUTE I'm having a go of it, just typing in the URL in Gmail. So it's "wired dot com bla bla" and then you put (slash) story/nvidia-hardware-is-eating-the-world-jensen-huang

Arrrgh!  I did subscribe in order to get to see the item, but even after subscribing it continued to be blocked! I have a slow modem so my workaround in Windows 10 was to hit F5 to refresh the page, and then I quickly hit CTRL-A followed by CTRL-C to capture the text before the blocker activated.

I wrote a nasty e-mail to Conde Nast's sub-contractors. Horrible web pages and logic holes. angry

I heard all of the money they were making was from training the AI. Like, the companies don't even know if it will be good. They're just paying to train it.

When sharing the link in Gmail I had gotten one of those irritating, decorated fonts... er, sorry - descriptive links. Anyway my point was that the UX you get with these magazine pages was really bad. I just wanted to see the time but they insisted on me paying for it - and then they STILL refused to come up with the goods as it were. They next introduced the sub-contractor that they hired to handle subscriptions. A physical snail mail address flashed by at one point, but it does not appear on all pages. Bad form IMO, partlcularly since the process appeared to be slanted towards the physical, hard copy magazine which, again, appeared to be the only way I was going to get the article without jumping through hoops.

That's the link. The web page will have a popup forcing you to subscribe. However, there is a delay. Click on the page, QUICKLY do CTRL-A (CMD-A on a Mac) to select everything, CTRL-C (CMD-C) to copy, then paste into Wordpad or equivalent. You will get garbage making it hard to read but you'll be able to read it.

    Thasss' riiiighhttt! Thanks.

Sometimes those... "descriptive links" (if that is in fact what they are called) do not translate... well across different OS or different versions of the same product for different OS. For example Gmail-in-Windows-browser and Gmail-in-app-on-Android-cell-phone.

Another bugaboo - or at least an idea of how weird this is getting: for one newsletter product they want you to sign a class action waiver!
