Iray SunDial

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to move the dial other than azimuth and elevation. I try using the axis control, but nothing will move. If I want the sun to come from another direction, I cannot do it. So what is the secret?

Azimuth is the direction the sun comes from.  The default values range from -180 to +180, which is the range of a full circle.  Are you using the negative values also when you try to change direction?

After some time, I think maybe you not knowing some fine points.  Your environment must includes the sun part of the sundial.  Is easier to show by picture for me, so I show how to make sun shine like is 2 PM

Not directly answering your question, but the fastest, easiest way to set the angle of the sun is to add a new camera, then choose it as your view. You can now "look" through it. Move it around so that it points in the direction you want. Change back to your regular camera for making renders, and set thre new camera as the SS Sun Node.

Be aware that even with Sun/Sky Only, the Iray virtual dome is still avtive, along with its rotation and other parameters. Return all these settings to their defaults, or your sun will appear to come from a different direction than how you've pointed it.

Now, this is really cool. I have never thought of it that way. It sounds doable and will defintly get me what I am looking for. This litterly will allow me to move the base of that sun dial which I was having problems with. Thanks so much for your help.heart

  • You can change the time of day, the date, longatude and latatude, all these these will change the angle of the sun

I know this is an old post, but how the heck do you "set the new camera as the SS Sun Node"??
