What do you mean, change the interface to render?

My first guess is that you are running out of system RAM memory (and/or possibly video memory if you have CPU fallback disabled)--generally if the entire program crashes it is the former.  Could you post a little more detail about the type of scene (number of figures/HDRI/etc.) and your system specs?  Perhaps with that someone can help.

Daz Studio doesn't use DirectX for display, but my suspcion would be that soemthing in the render activity tab iss et in such a way that it triggers the crash. Does it do this even on a freshly launched application with nothing loaded? In any event, you can render from any activity tab - just go to the render menu and click render, or hit cmd/ctrl R. If yiu need to adjust settings then Windiow>Panes(Tabs)>Render Settings will open the pane for settings.

Along with the other suggestions, and something that causes issues with UltraScenery, if you have a lot of instances in your products, did you change Instancing Optimization to Memory and turn off Nvidia Iray on the viewport before working? (This is just a wild idea, but one that US users forget and run into trouble with.)

I assume you mean activity, the tabs along the top in some layouts. Switch to another tab, set the Drawstyle (the sphere icon to the left of the view picker - the button that probably says Perspective View of Default Camera for an empty scene) to nVidia Iray or Filament, and see what happens. I suspect one of them will trigger the crash.

    Go to

    %appdata%/daz 3d/studio4/

(on WIndows - paste that into the address bar in a file browser to go to the app data folder with DS settings). remove the actions, customactions, layout, menus, and toolbars .dsx files and see if DS will then start - if it will the issue is msot likely a corrupt file.
