Importing JUST a skeleton from 3DS Max?

I opened up a figure in 3DS Max, and found that it has a skeleton already attached to it.
I've exported the figure as OBJ so I can easily imported figure into DS, but what I would like to do, rather than having to manually RE-rig the figure by hand, is to be able to import the skeleton itself, as it's a skeleton that actually can work with multiple figures similar to the one I'm using (btw, it's a prop, not a person).
Is there a specific format I should export it in from 3DS that I can import into DS or is there a script/plugin I need or something?
Thanks in advance for any answers/help.

(PS: MAN, isn't "skeleton" such a weird-looking and weird-sounding word?)

Have you tried exporting it as .fbx and importing it as .fbx into DS? Never tried that myself but it might work.
