So for whom is this tool for?

As you see, I don't post a lot.

But I have to ask, Daz Studio is 100% a 3D toolbox that allows you to create characters and scenes on a whim with as much detail as you want.

You are at least 95% in control of the outcome and the Daz ecosystem (more or less) supports this.

But this AI tool is completely in the opposite direction.

Not only does it use internal Daz resources to launch a product in an already oversaturated market, this AI tool doesn't even use the products you do own already nor is it for continuing creation in an 3D environment.

So what is the goal for this product? Who is it for?

People come to the Daz Ecosystem for creative freedom in the 3D space and anyone who is trying to work in 2D is already using the superior competition.

I posted this somewhere else but it fits in here too :)

I'm thinking that the generator might not be targeting our current Daz community since we all love diving deep into the creative process and having full control over our projects. And honestly, I feel incredibly lucky to do what I love and even get paid for it! But even if things were to change tomorrow, I’d keep doing this because the joy of creating is what really matters to me.

I’ve noticed how people who struggle with complex tools still have a strong desire to create and how they find joy in using AI tools. A friend of mine, for instance, crafted an entire series of dinosaur tales for his grandson using AI, something he wouldn't have attempted in Daz Studio due to the steep learning curve. I think it’s wonderful that these tools can open up the world of creativity to everyone. And who knows? Some of these users might get the itch for even more creative freedom and decide to explore Daz Studio, learning the ropes to bring their visions to life even more fully.

I really love to decorate my scenes and play with outfits, flying around in my setting, this is all not available now. The tool is boring.

GREAT explaination Mada!  Totally agree :)

There is huge potential for this, I am using AI for various applications, but the Daz version of AI is lacking compared to existing platforms.

At some point you have to enter the market and out of Beta, and the current image AI is merely the starting point. While it might fall short in certain areas compared to competitors like MJ, it's also priced more accessibly, offering great value. Future enhancements will better cater to the specific needs of the Daz user community, rather than just getting new users.

The text to 3D is in development, as well as some other exciting uses which I think will appeal a lot more to current Daz users than the image creator. :D

Not to mention that perhaps by bringing in new users to DAZ to try out the DAZ AI Studio they may become more interested in generating their own 3D Scenes and try out DAZ Studio.  Which then creates more revenue for DAZ, strengthens the community and expands the interest in DAZ Studio.  Win-Win for everyone!

So to answer the original post title... this tool can be for anyone.  They are just tools remember.  Ways to express creativity.  You don't have to limit yourself to one tool, anymore than a traditional artist would limit themselves to a pencil, a brush or one type of paint.  I like to use Blender, DAZ Studio, Substance Painter, Affinity Photo and even dabble a bit in AI generators.  This could be an excellent tool to use if you want to generate backgrounds for your 3D images.  For me personally, I see AI as an awesome tool as inpiration to help me generate ideas for products for DAZ Studio.

That is always the goal yes :)

Depending on the product we can use upwards of 6-7 apps to do products.

For me  generative AI is not just a simple "enter text, get image" solution.

The ability to combine multiple tools like ControlNet, IP-Adapter, upscaling, text2img, img2img, text2vid, img2vid in a customizable node-based workflow is what convinced me of generative AI.

Maybe  Daz3D can develop an offline version of Daz AI Studio that can use local GPU and provide the ability to import external modules like LoRa similar to ComfyUI?

In its current form for me the main benefit of Daz AI Studio is to get access to a Stable Diffusion XL checkpoint that was trained by a reliable source.

I would be interested to be able to pay a license fee to use the Daz Studio AI checkpoint and LoRa (characters, clothing) locally in ComfyUI for some projects.

I love the story about the grandfather creating the book of dinosaurs for his grandson. Thank you for sharing that. Definitely helps expand my mind about what AI can be used for.

I think you hit on some really insightful points here, Mada. This will definitely make it possible for any and all people to experiment with digital imagery. And the truth is, it's already here. And I don't mean just at Daz. AI "art" is already here in the real world. Dall-E and Mid Journey get a lot of the press but it's even showed up in the "professional" artist work flow with things like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator's newest feature: Generative AI. AI is here. It's fun. It's easy. It's curious... and yes, a little intimidating. But definitely not disappearing or going away. But I don't think it's cause for us to panic just yet, though. Why? Because, while AI can create an image that our puny human brain would deem stunning - it can't create that experience that one gets when you, me, or anyone, actually creates something. That's still more "fun" to me. More real. And I believe that (very soon) those things that AI can do so well will become something - else. Perhaps, useful in marketing, or in speeding up other processes, but I'm not afraid they will replace "art". Because they can't replace that experience that is art. For now, I'm going to explore it and experiment with it because I recognize that it's part if the conversation now, whether we're ready or not.

Well, i've a less powered PC, really old for new DAZ version. If AI permit to use my purchased items, without paying more, and render my scene for me, it's ok. I explain better, i create the scene with my DAZ Items, i send it to AI, and AI render for me. Well, in this way can work for me. But if i must write stupid prompts, not for me.

    Just a couple thoughts:

    1. Not everyone uses Daz for what one might call "main stream" renders so you've lost them.

    2. AI images are not copywriteable. These are literally unusable for production work. AI is good for thumbnails and idea boards but not the real deal. You've lost the VN market.

    3. Can't compare this to DAZ. Two fundamentally different products for completely different things.

    Other thoughts:

Daz seems to be chasing the next hot thing.

NFTs? - How much time and money did they waste on that garbage?

As long as DAZ AI can pay for itself and we continue to get the DAZ we know and love...I am 100% in support of this.

As soon as it starts to cannibalize DAZ profits? Dump it as yet another waste of time and money.

If, however, they get lucky and it makes money? Then yay for them! More money for the PAs too!

Some additional thoughts after a few days of experimenting with Daz AI Studio:

    Combining online and offline solutions

I copied prompts from my local Stable Diffusion version in ComfyUI over to the online DAZ AI Studio.

Compared results, edited prompts, basically working online and offline at the same time all morning.

Daz AI Studio clearly excels in specific areas like sci-fi interiors compared to other checkpoints I tried.

    exclusive or licensed?

    • Daz Productions could keep the checkpoint and the LoRA they train exclusive, locked away in their own Daz AI Studio.
    • Alternatively, they could provide their trained checkpoints and LoRA to others for a license fee to use them offline or in other apps.

Stability AI likely will continue to release new models in regular intervals.

SD3 is in the last phases of testing. SDXL 2.0 surely will arrive at some point.

For each new model release customers may once again be interested in the latest versions of their favorite checkpoints and LoRA.

Daz could position itself on the market to create specialised checkpoints for fantasy, science fiction, steampunk and post-apocalyptic styles,  LoRA for specific characters, hair, clothing, etc.

The future: AI as alternative for path tracing

Maybe in a few years Stability AI will release a new base model that accepts 3D models with geometry and textures as input.

And at that point the existing Daz Studio and  Daz AI could be combined in very creative ways...

In any case, for me long-term it is not "3D or AI" but a question of how to combine both...

The gallery will be filled with AI images in the Traditional section.
    How to prevent this?
What happens with render contests, where there is a prize to win?
How to make sure AI is excluded?

I wondered who it was for, too. It was inevitable that Daz would want to get a piece of the AI action, and I think one day, this may be what Daz is, and the 3D will disappear. I comfort myself that it won't stop my existing investment from working...

But I can't see myself ever using this, and it has nothing to do with any prejudice against AI. I've tried AI, and I don't enjoy it, and if you make art for fun, that's quite important! That is very personal, and we all have to decide why we do this and what we enjoy.

I didn't feel I was the one making the pictures. I commissioned someone who has never seen human hands to make me 1,000 pictures. I would select those that could be salvaged and then attempt to patch them up.

I didn't need to pay. Anyone with hardware capable of rendering Daz3D images can also create AI locally on their machine, with all the latest features and the ability to generate pictures of whatever they want. If you can use Daz, you also have the technical skills. It's not rocket science.

So, all I can't do with my installation of Stable Diffusion is use the Daz model. I don't need to because I have Daz and enjoy using Daz and Blender to make pictures, so that is what I will do.

Good point, but not everyone is in a posession of powerful hardware to create AI locally, including myself.

For me is a good alternative to see images created somewhere else and give a boost to my aging brain.

Was initially sitting on the fence with some major reservations about AI, decided to have a look to see what the fuss was all about.

I installed Krita AI on my graphics computer which has a 1060 6GB card which is the recommended minimum.

From trialing prompts it was apparent that some prompts got a lousy response from the AI.

Tried the DAZ AI and was getting good results. Purchased the Pro version which gave me the option of generating up to 8 images in less than a minute, Krita AI was taking about 3 minutes per image.

Plan for using the AI images -

First of all is to generate a number of iterations on subjects that interest me, then I will use those images as a guide for setting up a scene in Carrara with my content library.

Second is to use Diomede's method of exporting a scene from Carrara into the AI to generate an image of it.

Thirdly is to use the AI image as a background for posed DAZ/Poser/Carrara models.

Fourthly is to use an Image to Image process to tart up my renders.

Will continue to do renders in Carrara, and use the AI as another plugin for the work process.

Also I am keen to get back into 3D modeling, will use the AI images as inspiration for the models. Have been doing a series of start/stops with the modeling largely as I have too much fun rendering.

I am in the multiple tools in the toolbox camp.  With shadow catchers, any 2D image generated in any way can be combined with a 3D workflow.  The online Daz AI image generator is just one more way to get a 2D image. I am OK with using a background from Polyhaven (or whatever it is called these days) and sticking a Michael and Victoria walking on its beach.  I am OK with using a pic of my local state Capitol building from my phone and inserting Daz Dragon 3 circling the dome in a variation on Earth vs the Flying Saucers.   And in the case of Daz AI, my personal opinion is that the data used to train the AI model were legally acquired.  That legality issue isimportant tome because reportedly some AI databases were acquired under false pretenses. My opinion might be right or wrong, but the current version of Stable Diffusion I have been learning from has many assets acquired under the premise the assets were being acquired for educational purposes, not for profit.  As long as I am using Stable Diffusion for educational purposes, includuing teaching myself basic concepts of a combined AI workflow, I am OK with my current use of Stable Diffusion.   But I will be moving on from Stable Diffusion at some point, perhaps even for profit (I can dream).  I am glad that Daz3D is trying to make its asset library useful in an AI workflow.  Might turn out great, or might fail.  But I am glad they are trying.

I can see Ai being used to create complex background images an hdri's.  it does a pretty decent job on landscapes and other environment types images, so a good use would be to create multiple series of 4k backgrounds images that was Ai generated by where the prompts follow a storyboard or story script and use those images created to compost backgrounds for animation in the daz studio program, this would be a hellva time saver for the artist creating the animation using daz character

  • I've been using AI Studio to generate reference imagery to help me dial-spin figures.

Today, I wanted some inspiration for hero emblems/logos.

Here are a few example prompts...

It's funny in the Products Suggestion forum there is a discussion on Native American Products of which there are not that many and reasons why we may never see any. I want to create NA images, but the lack of assets makes it near impossible. So I wanted to see what DAZ AI could do for me. I could never reproduce this image in DS unless I made 90% of it from scratch, so I do see a benefit from AI

That's cool how you matched the lighting on the figure with the background,  and simulated the fabric too.

That's exactly the weak point of AI and why it's not useful, I mean at all. In a story, even for static backgrounds, you need various different views of the same environment, from different camera angles. Now AI can't do that, it can't "remember" a scene and give you different shots of it. The same as AI can't do different shots of the same character, eventually interacting with other characters and the scene.

AI would be helpful in this aspect, but not as an image generator, but as an enhancer, something DAZ should implement with their AI progran since it would be more beneficial to a community that creates renders.
