Confused, disappointed

I have Windows 7.  I'll start at the beginning...

I recently decided to come back and try Daz Studio again.  I use Poser predominantly.  I started to have a problem where it (Daz) would not load items into the clothing folders so they would show up with everything else, and I had to go in and find it in the alphabetical listing area of the products I have.  I found the item in question there and loaded it but it showed up as large blocks covering the character instead of the item that it should have been.  It also said there was a file it couldn't find.  I then noticed that everything I had loaded outside of the original genesis, genesis 2 and genesis 3 files needed for the characters' installation would not turn up where they were supposed to go- only being found in the alphabetical listing.

So- I decided to do an uninstal through Daz Instal Manager.  And I went through other folders and did manual uninstals of pretty much everything I could find (ive probably had about 4 different versions on there at some point).  Now upon reinstal it loads Daz Studio 4.8 but then tells me that it cant find the Genesis DUF file upon startign the program.  It also only recognizes my poser directories and not any Daz Studio products whatsoever.  I've done a bit of searching online but decided to ask here.  I am thinking about getting a refund for what I purchased, especially if I cannot get this fixed. One of the things that confuses me the most is that I would think that a new instal would fix the problems by starting over- but it seems like I need to have prior versions of this on my computer in order to get it to function properly???

What would I need to do to get this thing to work properly?  I actually was enjoying the program better than the other iterations I had seen for the few minutes I had it more or less working.  Now i'm dead in the water....

This is a content installation issue rather than a Daz Studio issue. Go to Edit>Preferences (DAZ Studio menu>Preferences on a Mac), then in that go to the Content Library tab and click the Content Directory Manager. Expand Current Directories>DAZ Studio Formats. If you are installing using DIM the folder you install to should be listed there - the default is My DAZ 3D Library in the Public or Shared Documents folder (you can see exactly which folder DIM is writing to by checking the Show Details box in Ready to Download or ready to Install); if you install manaully make sure you are, for Daz content, taking the files out of the zip's Content folder and placing them in the intended content directory. The Data and Runtime folders must be in the root of your content directory, not in a sub-folder (content directory means the folder in Content Directory Manager, not a folder named "Content").
