Most noob friendly way to use an iRay shader and a texture on the same object.

I have a mask bone mask that I think looks best when I "texture" it using a bone shader. Unfortunately the mask looks a little plane with just the shader, and I'd like to put a painted rune or some other sort of markings on it. Is there a way I can export the shader as a set of texture files to edit them? If not, what's the most noob-friendly way of doing this? I know you can use geografts to make overlays for figures, but that seems a little bit complicated for "slapping on a layer of texture" for a prop.

For iray you could use a Decal node to project the symbol, or you could apply it to a Geometry Shell with its own maps and a transparency mask hiding most of it.
Thanks! I'll look into decal nodes.
