Shader Not Working, Weird Behavior!

I am trying to add a wood finish to an object I am importing from blender.

I created a simple flat cube in blender and exported it as an object. Then I import into DAZ Studio. Then I try to apply a shader that looks like wood. The object changes color, but no wood texture.

If I do exactly the same thing with a cube I create in DAZ, it seems to work properly.

I have attached a screen shot with the forward cube being created in DAZ and the cube behinde it being the imported one.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Is the cube correctly uv mapped in blender? The Daz cubes use 1:1 mapping so are already mapped correctly.

  • I don't think I am exporting any UV map settings with the Object

The uv map is stored with the object automatically, but it looks like the stock uv mapping on blender cubes is very small. If you were to go into the surfaces tab, click the objects material, then go down to tiling - You can reduce the tiling on the object to maybe 0.1 (both vertical and horizontal). If the texture becomes visible, it means the mapping is small.

I'm don't use blender so i can't guide you through the mapping process, but mapping a cube should be very quick.

    Here's a tutorial: http://www.chocofur.com/5-uv-mapping.html

  • So, when I change Normal Vertical Tiles to a small number like 0.1, the object darkens somewhat, but no mater what I do I cannot get the mapped texture to appear

  • This is really frustrating, Does anyone have any clue why a simple cube that I exported from Blender won't display any texture maps at all (see attahced image above).

I have been hacking at this for 10 hours now, no luck whatsoever!

    HELP!!!!!!!

    I don't use Blender. I use Hexagon.

The problem appears to be that there is no uvmap - or at least nothing that D/S is recognizing as one - applied.

In Hexagon we have to specifically apply the uvmap. ? in Blender, look for someplace to actually command an apply?

And unfolding it will make it look nicer too.

  • In DS, select your model and switch to the UV view (using the sphere icon next to the camera/view picker button - click on View by Material in the top bar and switch to View By Node) to see the template. When done switch back to a standard view using the button labelled UV View in the top bar.
