Thank-you for that...That's a few more options than I knew I had!
Wait, there's more. If you hover the mouse over the numerical values in the colour control, it changes to a left-right pointer. You can left-click-drag to manually change each of the three colours. If you right-click, you can type in a number directly.
It looks like the standard built in ancient Windows colour picker to me, which dates back to Windows 95, or quite possibly before. It's alsays staggered me that an art program would use it even a decade ago, let alone now. Think what colour choosers look like in other art applications like PS or Affinity. I suppose this one does the basics, but it's from the stone ages!
I've been doing this for sometime. Just by changing the diffuse colour.
It is a new, standardised presentation of existing features to facilitate their use.
I believe Qt limits what can be done, but there is no claim that th actual colour dialogue is different.
I have the three Xivon cars and there is no colorize bit in the surfaces on any of them. Not sure why they are in the Colorize section of the store.
It very possible. I don't know how much access it gives to the underlying API.
Apparently it is the Qt picker, but there isn't anything actually stopping them from using another - other than license costs and/or development time. I think at one point the mac version ddi have a better, but then theer were issues and they got rolled back to the basic Qt dialogue too (but that may well be completely misremembered).
They aren't doing anything new. I feel like the communication failed, as this whole "colorized" thing is presented like a new function provided by a select few products, which is not the case. Plenty of other products offer neutral textures, and even those that don't, it's quite easy to just create your own out of their diffuse textures, to be honest.
What they are doing is standardizing their products, which indicates they will include neutral textures off the bat with a preset called "customize" so users can quickly identify it. To then make it easier, they are creating a selection set (called colorized), so that when you select that in the surface panel it pre-selects all the surfaces (white) you can change via the diffuse channel rather than you having to manually look for them.
Makes sense! I think it's wrapping this one. And Qt probably didn't make their own for much the same reasons.
This is the best explanation I've seen. A lot of us have been doing this all along. Any product that comes with a white texture option can be changed to any color. In fact, many content creators have included white textures just for that reason, even at other stores. It's cool that future products at DAZ might be more likely to have white or light gray textures, though, especially if there are other details in the texture map beyond just a plain surface. Skin textures are a good example of that with moles, wrinkles and other markings.
I am passing this on more-or-less straight to avoid further muddying things:
Is there actually an update to DAZ Studio? My email says "DAZ Studio Update" just above the colorize information - but DIM isn't showing any update for DAZ Studio. If there is no update, this email is misleading :(
I think this about summs it up. What DAZ is doing here is great but it isn't communicated well.
No, this a content thing - adopting a systematic labelling and organisation to take full(ish) advantage of existing features.
There is a beta update dated 4/11, about coinciding with the beginning of the Colorize push. Anyway, this all gets back to the communication issue. The official explanations don't really explain all of this in a way that clarifies the situation for people. Also, I don't seem to have any products that offer the new labelling and organization. Not sure it would even show up for me as I don't use smart content. So, for me, it is as if nothing has changed.
Thank you for your response Richard.
