Blonde Rendering as Silver

I have this asset. I am using it in a scene that I am rendering using Iray. When I render the hair, that is blonde in the scene window, is silver in the render window. Can somebody explain how to get it rendering as blonde?

This is an old product, which has no Iray specific materials. You will have to adjust the hair material manually in the Surfaces Tab. As it renders silver, I guess that the Specularity and Glossiness values are much too high. Lower them and look if it helps. A screenshot would be good to see whats going on.

what Iray shaders are you using?

If I was having this problem, I'd bring a hair that has the right blonde look I like when it's rendered in iray into the scene. Then I'd copy and paste the settings onto the other hair, changing out the texture and trans maps as needed.

Based on what you two said, I looked deeper. Even though I am using the Iray renderer, it appears that the hair is using the Daz Studio Default shader. (It also appears that I cannot change the shader, as if I select the Presets tab, the hair is no longer selected.)

What I tried was turning down Specular Strength and Glossiness down to zero and it is only a tiny bit better.

    @Timbales

    I will try your suggestion.

You'll need to apply the Iray Uber Base shader to the hair before you paste any other hair's iray settings to it.

The path I show for it is Daz Studio Formats - My Daz Library - Shader Presets - Iray - Daz Uber.

I don't have that hairstyle from that vendor, but I do have their Lush hair. If you get stuck, I can try doing iray settings for you to get a look you'll like.

I figured out how to assign the Daz Uber shader. Then I got an idea. There are other hair colors included. I took the layered image editor and did a blend of a darker color into it. I'm tinkering with it now, but that maybe the solution.

Well that didn't work. I can get more or less silver, but I can not get any blonde. :-( Is there a way to change the color overall?

You could try adding a translucent color, like a dark golden tone.

Have you tried using a darker material without layering? Lush hair comes with a blonde tone called Honey and it looks ok in Iray to me.

Did you try a test render before you tried your idea? I use Slosh's UHT Hair Shaders now, but I used to get moderately good results (although they did sometimes need a bit of tweaking) just applying the Iray Uber Shader on its own.

Thanks to everybody who replied. Based on what you all suggested I got the issue resolved. Ultimately this is what I did.

    1. I figured out how to apply the Daz Uber Shader to the hair.

    2. I loaded in a more recent hair item that used Iray and loaded a blonde material.

    3. I copied the parameters from the blonde hair iray shader.

    4. Pasted the settings onto the older hair.

    5. Rendered - Grabbed a beer - Watched the screen

    Bingo - Blonde Hair

Thanks again for all your help. This is my first "real render". I have just been doing tutorials and stuff until now. I'll post in the gallery when it is finished.

you can also apply the txture that you (blonde), then hold ctrl (pc) and double click the iray uber shader. select "ignore" for images in the dialog that pops up. you will keep the original texture.  You have to have the surface selected in the surfaces tab before you add the shader
