I couldn't resist the bundle. Love the character - looks great and is a quick render. Had a bit of fun mixing her with other figures and doing a little shaping to retain the neanderthal features. I adbsolutely love the female body shape. It's fantastic - slightly outside of the parameters of a human body, but somehow it looks more believable to me than most of my other characters. I'd love to see more body shapes like this - it's great for mixing into other bodies to get something more representative of what some people actually look like. Brings great diversity to my library - thank you to whoever is responsible for it.

Heads up that the cave add-on comes as a full scene or some props. No preset to load just the cave.

Having a few issues with the fur outfit, to be honest. It doesn't simulate particualrly well, im my experience. It's not exactly quick and it'll explode very quickly if you simulate the tunic and cloak together. Simulation settles very quickly, though. Not sure I like the way the fur settles, however - it tends to jump about and has ended up in the way of my shots (obscuring faces etc.) The bottom of the tunic has a habit of twisting around itself and generally making a nuisance of itself in a way that would make the new store filter blush. The outfit could've really done with some underwear. It doesn't drape well over thighs - twisting aside, it looks unnatural and clips, clips, clips in that area.

None of the outfit pieces load parented to the figure, which means you have to do that yourself. And when you do parent to a common ancestor, the fur translates at larger increments than the base parts, which means the fur ends up flying off and you have to correct it with a smaller reverse translation. If you've a habit of translating your characters and tend to translate in more than once plane at one, beware.

But the outfit does look nice, it's just an absolute nightmare to use (imo).

Edit: Here's a quick render I did. Spent most of my time creating the character shape - the rest is just stuff plonked together from the pro bundle/add-ons as a test render. I think it all looks very promising, but you can probably see how the fur is misaligned. I watched it fly off, did an artbitrary reverse translation, hit render and just let it run. And I deliberately cut the render above her thigh for the reasons outlined above.

Do you have the OmniHair shader? In other words, are you using a recent enough version of DS and have you updated your default resources?

I'm not sure what I would do with him, but he looks well made!

  • OUR MOST VERSATILE CHARACTER YET, says text on the announcement page. I'm not seeing it, I think it's the least versatile figure to date. But maybe I just lack imagination.

The Neanderthal isn't the most versatile character, but at least he's different than what we've had lately.  He also makes a great dwarf!  If that's something you want to do.

I can see lots of use for them, delightfully different from the majority of the new characters and a welcome addition to the gene pool.

Earlier when I read your comment I had the song 'Who Wants To Live Forever?' run through my head. Consider what you could do with a Neanderthal who is immortal and is living through all our history, traveling the world, later into the future in space. Someone who is not a gorgeous heartthrob, but a guy who looks like a peasant, grunt, or just everyman? Or woman. Just a person in the background, not the star.

I don't know that I'd call the Neanderthal the "most" versatile, but it offers some shape possibilities that are much different from the typical human character. I've had some initial success using Neanderthal shapes on other characters but haven't played much with Daz since picking up the the bundle a few days ago.

could someone add the neanerthal 9 to another character, maybe at 50% or thereabouts?

Added 33% Neanderthal to a custom G9 character.

This kind of characters and licensed content like Jon Snow for Genesis 9 is amazing. Would be amazing to have more GoT or Lord of the Rings characters for G9.

Love it! Makes for a really interesting mix.

Can I ask which hair that is?

I think he might make some interesting characters with small doses of Neanderthal and Cheyenne mixed in.

thank you. Wow, that is very good. With the added 10% off this morning I'm buying. I'm now convinced.

That is Dannie, with an Omni shader color:

Thanks! I picked up the Neanderthal bundle in hopes that the shapes would add something interesting and new to the tool set, and with just this first try, I'm satisfied that at sensible amounts, they can add something useful to seriously intended characters. The base here is one of my Face Transfer 2 characters.

I've been doing a series of images just trying to do something 'different' - hmmm..  I do have one that is not ready yet, but a VERY pregnant Neanderthal woman is anticipating motherhood.  And this one:

What did Neanderthals ponder in the dark of the night, when things were calm and the world wasn't trying so hard to wreck 'em?

(Looks best on a large screen to see details like the arm hairs and such.)
