I've got a 24-core Threadripper and 128GB of RAM, and working in 3D still takes time.

The fastest CPUs are slower than any recent GPUs, their only benefit is lack of memory limitations. I doubt these will be much better, and they cost far more.

Those types of CPUs are mostly good for general purpose multitasking for handle many concurrent jobs farming out work to databases, GPUs, and AI chips (? What are those AI chips called officially).

  • Generally, the more cores, the slower each individual core. So a really powerful CPU is only going to help you with those certain operations that are actually multithreaded and not designed to run on a GPU. That's probably a relatively small set of operations, but there are some. From Blender I can say that manipulating a character's armature seems to benefit, but I'm not sure about anything else that I have noticed when I upgraded from the first Threadripper 1950 to a 13900K.

CPU's with lots of cores don't really help Daz Studio as I believe it only uses 2 threads and a good GPU is much more efficient for rendering than a CPU.

Doesn't hurt to have  plenty of CPU cores as far as Windows is concerned though.

...it does help if immensly when rendering in 3DL or Carrara and there are still people here who do so..
