Problems with GoZ

I need help with sending models back from Zbrush 4R7 to DS 4.8.

After sending models at base resolution to Zbrush via GoZ and morphing in Zbrush, when I send them back a new instance of DS opens. It's phenomenally frustrating. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Zbrush, GoZ, and DS, with no success. Uninstalling and reinstalling DS worked until restarting my computer.

I've seen others with the same problem here:

and here:

Both of these forums are marked as solved, although there is little specific advice in either. Any help would be appreciated. I have cleared cache files in Zbrush. I'm using 64-bit versions of both apps.  Strangely, the 64-bit version of Zbrush installs into the 32-bit Program Files (x86), so I'm wondering if that could be part of the problem. Totally at a loss.

  • 32 vs 64 bit isn't the issue, it's more likely to be pathing. In ZBrush go to Preferences>Plugin-in Prefrences>Goz (I think, going from memory) and make sure that the path to Daz Studio is set to the version you are using. You can have only one GoZ for DS plug-in installed, so if you have the beta and the standard build they may have fallen out of step with the paths..

Thanks. That's the correct path for goz prefernces. However. I'm sure the path to ds is correct. I only have one version of ds installed. I think I only have one version of goz installed, but not sure how to check. I'm not using dim, if that makes a difference. Prefer not to use it if possible. When I run the goz installer that I download from product library, task manager says goz for 32 bit is running, even though I'm downloading and running the file from the 64 bit link in product library. Is it possible the 32 bit and 64 bit links accidentally point to the same 32 bit exe?
  • GoZ needs to match the DS version, so if you are using the 32 bit DS you want the 32 bit GoZ. The GoZ in task Manager is, I think, the ZBrush end and as far as I know there is only the one.

Right, I'm using 64-bit DS, 64-bit GoZ, and 64-bit Zbrush 4R7. I'm going to uninstall everything and start over and see what happens.

I uninstalled all three applications. Then I:

-installed DS 4.8 64 bit via DIM

-installed GoZ 64 bit via DIM

-installed ZBrush 4R7 via saved installer. This probably doesn't matter, but when I installed it, I created a custom folder in Program Files, rather than installing it in the default location of Program Files (x86). I then reactivated the ZBrush license on this PC.

-tested a simple morph, and the bridge worked.

-restarted, and then it still worked

So...if someone else encounters this very frustrating problem, I'd suggest uninstalling everything, and then reinstalling, but it's probably fine to install ZBrush in the default location.
