I export my items from 3D Coat as obj files and they install fine. Haven't tried any other formats though.

Just don't export voxel models without retopologizing.  They will normally be highly poly dense as voxel models.

There is a tutorial for sale here on daz for what you are trying to do. http://www.daz3d.com/creating-in-3-dimensions-with-3d-coat If you don't want to pay just go to youtube and look around. That is what I usually do.
