Drawing opacity maps across a G8 geoshell

Hi all

I'm looking to make myself a geometry shell for G8 figures for custom sunburns and tan line effects. I know almost everything that I need to make this happen, but the one thing I'm missing and can't find in the forums is how I can paint the opacity maps across multiple surface areas (like where the legs meet the torso etc.) so that the burns/tans only appear in the places I want them to.

My guess is that I need to:

  1. Export the G8 geoshell to Blender
  2. Paint directly onto the opacity UV map on the model there

I'm just not sure how to make that second step happen?

If anyone knows of a video tutorial demonstrating this, please send it my way! I've tried looking but it may just be that I'm using the wrong keywords. Hopefully something like this exists.

Thanks!

Painbting opacity maps is technically no different from painting any other kind of map, it's how they are used that matters. But yes, you would usually (ideally, at least) export the model to an application that can do painting to a mesh, set up a separate map on each surface that is distinct (so torso and legs here) and paint away.

Sorry, I may not have been clear:

I'm looking to learn how to paint that opacity map. I guess in this case it would be a Blender question, though I was also looking to see if there was a way to do it in Daz as well.

    Thanks

    Actually it's easy ~

    - export Genesis figure instead of geo-shell to Blender, then the texture maps can be used in various ways...
    - paint tans or whatever needed on the designated surfaces or layers. (I recommend using Ucupaint, a free but very good add-on https://github.com/ucupumar/ucupaint/releases)
    - save PNG file with alpha channel. Paste it on to a layer with Black background in an Image Editor.

Then you don't have to use a geo-shell, which is a bit cumbersome. You can easily add the mask map to Diffuse Overlay or LIE to show tan lines or sth. A rough example is shown as below ~~
