3d connexion plug-in error: could not create device, cocreateinstance failed

I have a scene with five characters, including a G2F wearing Urban Survivor jeans.
When I try to render, Studio begins, then closes with this in the log file:
"3d connexion plug-in error: could not create device, cocreateinstance failed"
If I delete the Urban Survivor jeans, rendering takes place as normal.
If I substitute any other jeans, rendering works as normal.
Why are Urban Survivor Jeans killing Studio? Anyone here have an idea?

They use .tif files for the height (displacement, probably) maps - update daz Studio to get a version of Iray that doesn't crash with some Tiff compression algorithms or use an image editor to open and resave the tif files without compression, or resave them in another forumat and apply the new files in place of the old through the Surfaces pane.

Thank you. What format would you suggest?
Is there an easy way to tell which other files I need to do this to?
I've been using V4-G8 in this version of Studio for over a year, this is the first time
    I've run into this problem.

I would suggest PNG, as it is lossless.

Great, thank you. PNG is my default format for just about everything.
