Background Help..

Ok I figured out how to import a bacxkground through the Windows pane. But now, my entire former scene continually moves, floor and all in fron tof the background image!!

Is there no way toset the BG and then go back to modeling & posing? What am i missing??

  • If you want the backdrop to remain in a constant relationship to other scene elements you need to apply it to a plane primitive - the backdrop is tied to the viewport and will always be facing the camera and occupying the full frame. Of course any backdrop is only 2D so your usable view angles are goign to be limited whatever you do.

OK. How does one apply to a plane primitive? And yes newb...
  • Create the Plane Primitive by going to Create>New primtiive, selecting Palne and leaving the size at 1m.

Now, how big is you photo? Divide the width by the height (in pixels or inches or cm - whichever is easier) and multiply by 100 (to get the widfth as a percenatge of the height). In DAZ Studio select the plane and in the Parameters pane click the lined button in the top corner (or right-click the pane's tab) and enable Show Hidden Paarmeters, if it isn't. Eenter the number you worked out in X Scale - the plane will now have the same proportions as your image.

Open the Surfaces pane (Window>Panes(Tabs)>Surfaces) and in its Editor tab, in the list on the left, select the plane (or expand and select the Default surface - but since the plane has only the one surface the result will be the same). Find the control for Diffuse colour on the right and click the little Daz logo to the left of the colour picker control - you should get a menu, select Browse and then navigate to and select your image.

Now rotate the plane up (x-rotate 90) and use the overall Scale slider to adjust its size, use y translate to position it so it looks right.
