Install Studio 4.9 on Mac, get error: "A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established."

Just installed DAZ Studio 4.9 (64bit) on my Mac with OSX 10.8.5. It loaded fine, but when DAZ Studio opens I get error message "A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established." I checked and installer did create "DAZStudio4 64-bit" folder and "PostgreSQL CMS" folder in application folder and "My DAZ 3D Library" in Users/Shared.
This is a Mac, so there is no anti-virus or firewall software. Any ideas what what might be causing the problem?

In DAZ Studio under "help->troubleshooting->Show log file", open the logfile and look for anything "postgres" related.
Also, in /Applications/Console.app open system.log and filter (top right corner editfield) on DAZ Studio and postgres.
10.8.5, been a while since I used that. To make a wild shot (can be something else blocking), so did you try to reboot if it was a while ago?
I get the same error message on Win7 x64
I also received the error on startup on mac. But after i logged in everything, including postgres, seems to be running. I can access the store through ds no issue. So it may just be a glitch.
Received the error on statup on Win10 as well.....
I can't access the store through Daz, for some reason it doesn't accept my email & password. All my content seems to be there though, and postgres is up and running according to the task manager.
The same problem here. I can't access the store through Daz, and email & password are not accepted on Win 10.
I got the same error (OSX user), but afterwards, everything including smart content seems to be working normally.
Same on Windows 10
Can someone please let me know how to re-establish the connection to the POSTgreSQL database?
Most of the time the SQL works, but if I leave DS sitting idle or rendering for many hours, the connection breaks and an attempt to log in again will fail. I can no longer access anything. Thus far, the link comes back after rebooting the Mac.
I had to install the PostgresSQL CMS separately through the install manager and then it was able to connect.
Did that too, and same result.
I just checked my log file, and the result is odd. Just before it starts loading plugins, I have this:
And as the very last entry before I start working on the scene, I have this:
Given that everything seems to be working normally, I'm inclined to think that the first is accurate, and the second is erroneous. Note that I do not and will never use Daz Connect, so I don't know if anything is abnormal there.
That's pretty much what I get, with the same error message, except I'm on Win7 x64. Everything seems to be working fine otherwise for me too. I've also tried reinstalling, stopping and restarting the cms, running as admin, re-checking the new license agreement all to no effect. As I am not using nor ever will use Daz Connect I've requested a rollback to 4.8.
4.9 also remains active in my taskbar after Iray renders.
After sturuggling with Category problem, (though I could log in DAZ connect, at that time, to check why user_data not work for me)
then reset DB, and re-install it,
Luckily I can join another DAZ exceptional case group now.
I am proud to join dobule exceptional case for DAZ support.
Bad news, It is not only about Mac user, and windows 7 x 64 can not be extruded from this problem.
because I am actually windows 7x 64bit user. without zone alarm etc.
(hope change tittle not only about Mac User, some windows User have same problem with same alert
and really angry now )
Same on Win 10
Postgre MUST be run from a 'limited' user account...it intentionally fails if given unrestricted access (root).
A 'normal' Windows user account meets the requirements for Postgre to happily run...a full Admin or running as Admin may cause it to fail. I'm not sure what the permissions are on a MAC. And the Windows version included in Studio fails under WINE, in Linux, because it thinks it has 'root' priveleges.
Are any of you that are having problems running with elevated beyond 'normal' user priveleges/accounts?
Happens to me occasionally as well. I am the admin on my Win 10 machine.
Usually I just close Studio, run it again and I no longer get this message.
What exactly does this impact?
I see the message on an iMac; but Smart Content works anyway, and system shows PostgeSQL as running. I think there's some timing error that needs to be addressed.
mjc thanks I am running window 7 pro with admin priviledge.
I alredy remove this probem at crreunt, but have not get clear reason when it happen or not.from daz support.
support offer me, anyway re-install postgre sql, I tried twice alraedy, then not worked. but reset DB could work for me.
(actually it happend after I reset DB once. then it return, I reset DB again ^^;)
Well I get thge same error message running El Capitan and no smart content either. Help desk are stumped. Tried quite a few fixes suggested there including rebooting with root access. But nothing worked. Hmmm. Seems like functionality has fallen baxkwards a bit...
cms is just to slow for connect
or the other way round
Same error here OS X 10.11.3
I haven't got a clue. Complete tech noob. How do I find that out? (windows 10)
Imac / El Capitan - A reinstall PostgresSQL CMS through DIM didn't help. Smart Content works.
The same error on OS X El Capitan 10.11 with DazStudio 4.9, besides I can not export anything from Daz.
I had this fixed, but now it is back again. Arg.
I have this problem too . . .new problem for me. Have reinstalled Daz Studio, the PostgreSQL CMS, have checked permissions in my firewall.
Not sure what else to try.
Was working just fine until yesterday . . .
No support from DAZ on this?
Theer are a few possible issues:
If DS was initially Run as Administrator (explicitly from the launch menu, not just launched normally in an administrator account) then the folder used by PostgreSQL may have been created with admin-level access rights and may not allow DS run normally to access it - if that was the case you would probably need to delete the folder and let DS rebuild it on next launch
Firewall issues - usually this is automatic, but you may need to allow both DS and PostgreSQL to communicate on Localhost, 127.0.0.1 (this doesn't allow internet access, it's purely for the local machine). ZoneAlarm has long-standing issues with PostgreSQL, though one user did report that it has an update that resolves them so it may be worth checking the publisher's site.
Port conflict - PostgreSQL uses a port to communicate with DS, if some other application is using the same port (Spotify was suggested as a possibility) that can block traffic. Changing the port number in DS, and possibly restarting, should resolve this (Edit>Preferences>CMS Settings, or DAZ Studio menu>Preferences>CMS Settings for a Mac).
