Genesis1/2/3 question

edited January 2016 in Daz Studio Discussion

Hello, I'm a Poser hobbyst used to work with Gen4 figures (V4&M4). I've always been curious about DAZ Studio, but one of the reasons I still haven't switched is because I cannot understand very well how the Genesis figures work.

If I remember well, all the Genesis figures (Genesis, Genesis2 and Genesis3) are claimed to be a highly customizable figures whose clothes can automatically fit to any of its morphs. I'm referring, for example, to what can be seen in the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTBBnc2SJ90&feature=youtu.be.

So, first question, what are characters like Victoria 5, 6 and 7? If I'm not mistaken, they should be intended as morphs of the Genesis (1, 2 and 3) figures which have to be injected to the original figure. In this sense I'm wondering which is the difference with, e.g., Victoria 4 and its many morphs. Just replace Victoria 4 with Genesis 1/2/3 and "morph for V4" with Victoria 5/6/7 and that's it, or at least that's what it seems to me.

A fundamental difference might come from the clothes fitting feature. If I have a piece of cloth for V4 and I want to put it on some of its morphs I have to transfer the morph to the clothing in some way, so I imagine that this process should be automatic for the Genesis N figures. But in this case I cannot understand why there are products like http://www.daz3d.com/summer-for-victoria-7 which requires V7. Can I use it also if I don't have V7 and expect that it fits to any Genesis3 "shape"? And conversely, would a cloth designed for a "general" Genesis3 figure fit to Victoria 7?

On the other hand, I don't understand why there exist products like http://www.daz3d.com/feel-it-mix-and-match-expressions-for-victoria-7 that seems specific for V7 but, if you check the specs, they are told to be generally compatible with Genesis3.

Finally, why Genesis evolved so quickly from its first generation to the third one?

Thank you in advance for any answer, and sorry for my little understanding of this figure.

Alberto

Items like "Summer" will work on the base Genesis 3, but won't look exactly like the promos since the.it was built on the V7 reshapes. Expressions are the same - an expression for Victoria 7 will work on Josie 7, but they won't look the same.

I think of V5, V6 and V7 (and the others) etc. as closer to what used to be called characters with benefits.

They bring more than just new morphs to the base. They could also contain new UV mapping, altered joint centers, and even new bones (though I'm not too sure about that!)

When they are specified as a requirement for another character etc., you could try using those items directly on the base but as Frogimus says, "they won't look the same

So, first question, what are characters like Victoria 5, 6 and 7? If I'm not mistaken, they should be intended as morphs of the Genesis (1, 2 and 3) figures which have to be injected to the original figure.

It's actually simpler than that, injection isn't needed any more — all you need to do is install the character, and the morph will automatically be available as a new set of parameter dials the next time you load a Genesis figure into your scene. Also, the character install usually includes a preset that goes into your content library, which loads the Genesis figure, loads the character's textures, and sets the character's morph parameters.
