the first error. it says see log file..well that thing is a billion line ong..at the end is this:
    "Loading Startup Scene : C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library/data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 2/Female/Genesis2Female.dsf
Error reading file, see log for more details."

in 4.6, this file was also missing. why?

  • The first error typically means you were trying to apply a preset (pose, shape, materials etc) without the target selected. However, from the last image it looks as if the content is not installed correctly. Where are the files located on your drives and what folders are setb as DAZ Studio content directories in Edit>Preferences>Content Library tab>Content Directory Manager?

the file I found here: C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 2\Female     so that is correct. the content manager file is different ..but i added this one, and it still cant find anything. I'm not sure what to do or where to change whatever.

as you can see, nothing is loading correctly .... are these fgures pointed to from that content directory manager? so i would assume DAZ Install Manager needs to hav somedestination directory changed as well?

That looks like the Smart Content tab.

Note that Smart Content does not show you the content files on your computer. It shows you a sorted and filtered view of a database of links to your content files. This database has entries added to it when you install content through DIM or Connect. If there is a problem with your content folder location settings, it is possible that content files can be installed to one location, but D|S is looking for the content files in another location. Whether or not this setting is right, an entry will still be created in the database. This is most likely what's happened to you. The easiest way to confirm this and fix the situation is to look at the content location settings in Content Directory Manager.

ok ... this is all like a foreign language to me...why cant it just work? I'm using the DIM ... shouldn;t it put the stuff i the correct place? what is the point of it if it doesnt work correctly? Just to give the tech support guys a job? Its why I have uninstalled Daz Studio at leas tthe last 4 versions, for this exact problem. I dont have tine to troubleshoot this stuff over and over.

    TIPS:
    check the log file,,(open)

once it open on your screen, select all inside "CTRL+A" and press "delete"

reload the wrong file and check again your log

    -
    To fix smart content,,

1-  backup user data (Export user data)

    2- RESET DATABASE

    3- Re Import METADATA

the procedure 3 read all DSA files found in the runtime/support/ drawer of any user libreary assigned by "you"

Post a screen shot of the the Content Directory Manager...

By default DIM and Studio do not use the same directories for content.  9 times out of 10, simply adding the proper directories to the mapped content folders in Studio will solve the problem.

The last item under "Da Studio Formats" should end at "My Daz 3D Library" and NOT include /data/Daz3d.

That item also should be added to Poser Formats.

Same thread of the same person here http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/70680/i-would-love-to-learn-to-use-daz-studio-but-it-never-loads-genesis-2#latest

I had posted some lengthy explanation about how to match your DIM&Content Manager settngs there, before I found this thread here. Should o move my post over here?

EDIT: reposting my answer from the other thread here.

Well, it appens if you are using different drives and such, or specified a different location for download. I had that happen to me too, until I took some time to sort out my installation.

Here's what I did (sorry if I am explaining "baby steps", but I don't know how detailed your knowledge is, so please humour me). I consider it a given that you have downloaded all of the Starter Essential packages, so that's not causing your problems.

First, go to you DIM, and check the settings. You can find them when you click on the cogwheel in the upper right corner in DIM.

There, select the "Installation Tab", and check to where it leads. Also, make sure that you select the second option about the installation, because otherwise, DIM might get confused with some older installed locations on your machine. If the path you have in DIM isn't exactly the same as you have defined in DAZ Studio, or the one where you want to install your content, now is the perfect time to change the path. You might want to uninstall, and reinstall your content afterwards, so that it's located in the proper location.

Next, go to DS, and check the settings in the Edit-->Preferences--> Content Directories Manager. Under both, DAZ and Poser files, you need to set the directory you have chosen as a download directory. If only the DAZ, but not the Poser directory is set properly, you will get type of error messages you posted in the other thread.  Click on Accept after you're done.

Now, you can do database maintenance. In the Content Library, click on the small list in the upper right corner. From the list that pops up, select "Content DB Database" and check the items I have marked here:

If everything works as intended, you should be able to access the items now. If not, at least this part of the puzzle can be counted out as origin of your problem.

And there should be no content installed in the program folder...Windows doesn't like.  Windows can and often does prevent user access to such files.

The last item under "Da Studio Formats" should end at "My Daz 3D Library" and NOT include /data/Daz3d.

That item also should be added to Poser Formats.

so I shouldmove all the content under data/daz3d to my daz 3dlibrary and then remove those last two subdirectories?

No.  In the Content Directory Manager just edit the path and chop /data/Daz3d off the end of the path statement.  So you end up with "C:/Users/Public/Documents/My Daz 3D Library".  And then add that same line to the Poser Formats section, too.

Note that this is one of the worst things you could ever possibly do. Most of the time, when a glitch like this crops up, it's because the Content Directory Manager settings aren't pointing to the location where all your content files are sitting in a properly installed content folder. It's much easier, faster, and less accident-prone to change one setting than to move a lot of files.

Did you isntall content to that folder, rather than the My Daz 3D Library folder?

how do i double quote ?

First I have to thank everyone for being patient with me during my frustration ....
anyway...the files missing were in the data/DAZ3d folder .... some other files were in the correct directory. I moved the files from the data/daz3d folder to users/public documents/my daz3d library.

I also pointed the format to this directory as well as DIM for install.

I also had to change where the startup files were coming from.

SO ..right now it appears all is working ok..the program is openeing a scene with G2 ... but I will change that to G3 ....

The only othrr thing I've noticed is even though the content is installed, when I try to use it, it asks to install it again .... might be the result of my moving the stuff,,,but I have complied and it is installed and working. Its going to take a lot of work to figure out how to get what I get out of Poser.... Iray will not work with my system ....
