DAZ Connect on Two different Computers

OK, so I created .djl files for my content using my main machine, but when I try to open those files on my remote rendering machine, they won't load. I tried adding my remote DAZ Connect library as the DAZ connect path (it's shared, but in a separate "runtime" from the regular content), but the remote computer ignores the changes (it just retains the c:\ path even though I just told it to use the mounted X:\ drive). Is there a way to share these connect runtimes, or do we have to carry redundant copies of stuff?

Sharing a filesystem, while supported, is a little bit tricky.

Because Daz Connect partitions off every product into it's own directory it uses the database in order to find the actual file locations without having to scan through thousands of subdirectories. Unfortunately this means that in order for Daz Connect to think a file is there the database has to tell it that it is installed. This is where the complication comes in. Curnently the only way to tell Daz Connect to scan for files to see if they are there is to have it "install" that product on your other machine, this won't actually do any transfer over the network because all of the files will be there with the correct checksums but is a more effort than the ideal.

I am told that it could be scripted to scan for directories on the filesystem that don't line up with the databases view on what is installed but as far as I know this script has not yet been written/released.

  • I see. I guess until that has been worked out, I'll just steer clear of future DAZ connect stuff. Creating the djl files was already a bigger hassle than manually sorting the product directories since I have to do each different type seperately, whereas those directories were already nicely self contained...so, I moved one directory over to a new location and I was done. I certainly don't want to download manual files and install them on each machine nor can I afford the extra download. Comcast has already been charging us for exceeding our limit. I don't want to make it worse by downloading content twice.
