Delays before rendering really starts

I just want to know if this is normal. The progress dialog will appear, 0%, and then Daz goes Not Responding according to Windows. 40-50 seconds later, it starts putting out traces "IRAY (scene access)..." and then the percentage starts rising. It does this in individual frame renders and animation renders. Basically what is it doing between these two log file entries:

Here. What is this 53 second gap?

During the gap time, Daz Studio is "Not Responding". Scrolling back in the log, it say frame 27 took 45 seconds to render, which ignores that 53 second gap.

Just curious.
