Loaded up an old Girl 6 scene I had lying around and used V3D's FilaToon converter to update it. <3

Very nice, but how do you get those soft ground shadows

The ground is the multiplane cyclorama. Both the ground and the character use the "environment weight" option in the filatoon shader (ground is 0.2, character is 0.1). This not only means that they'll be affected *slightly* by the HDRI lighting, but it also means that the ambient occlusion shadows in Filament will actually appear on those surfaces (filament's AO seems to be directly tied to the HDRI). Bump up the strength a lot to make it more obvious without having to increase the environment weight, you get some nice soft AO shadows.

For lulz, Multi-Man for Genesis 3 and ye olde Alchemy Chasm!

Just checking out the old stuff to see how easily it can be adapted. Easily!

Genesis 1 and 2 has so much stylized character content that Filatoon could compliment.

So, you have used HDRI image as a light?

I am using the distant light from the example FilaToon scene, but the shadows looks different.

A quick little render I put together to celebrate the holidays!

Filter Forge was used to generate the texture used for the furry bits of the dress.

Nice image and nice fur effect, too.

Just a quick one. Filatoon became quite literally my preferred render shader. xD

I've been doing some tests and the shadows are being rendered totally pixelated... Is there any fix to that?

EDIT: kinda fixed... I was using some distant light and it was causing the pixelated shadow. Did some adjustment in the Filament Draw Options and it worked.

The holidays have been busy, I'm sorry I haven't responded to everyone's comments! I do appreciate the kind words - you all put a big smile on my face!

Here are a couple of more. I'm SO GLAD I was able to get 3D Universe's Grumpy Santa Christmas freebie! I'm a big fan of most things "toon" and really like his toon stuff, so when I saw he gave the community his santa as a Christmas gift I was ticked pink! He looks great with Filatoon added to him!

This one is with the XI Dark Vampire Castle with Filatoon added to it. It's not very "holiday", and a bit late for it - it's more like a Halloween vibe. But I like how it turned out. I really like that we can render blooms in Filament rendering!

These both look great @3Diva! Grumpy Santa done in a Christmas Gnome style is awesome ;)

Seems like night scenes done using FilaToon aren't all that common - excellent work on this one. You've managed to keep loads of detail in there and the bloom on the windows really does make the image. Cheers!

Thank you @Artini and @algovincian - Filatoon has been a real game-changer for me! :D I've been wanting a better NPR option for Daz Studio for a LONG time - 3Delight can be awesome for NPR but the render time is just so slow. And while there were a couple decent NPR options for Iray, they still ended up looking too 3D for my taste. I'm so thrilled with Filatoon all the different NPR styles I've been able to achieve with it! And the SPEED is incredible! Nearly instantaneous rendering - like WHAT? SO COOL!

@wolf359 That looks AMAZING! Awesome work!

I hope you don't mind me posting a larger image for others to enjoy incase they're on a device that has trouble opening the thumbnail image:

That came out so cool! Well done!

  • Haven't had any time for DS or the forums for a while, but any chance I got, I did try and catch up on the new additions in this thread.
Thank you everyone for sharing all your fantastic, wonderful, inspiring renders and tips. Love seeing them! heart

@TheNathanParable The lighting is really cool! Lighting can be tricky with Filatoon but you have a great handle on it!

@Wonderland That turned out So Good! The halftone pattern and frame really takes it to another level! Nicely done!

Thanks. I'm a postwork addict and can never leave a render alone lol. If you notice, her smile has bit of trepidation to it going into this new year... ;)

    Thanks, @barbult

Have created this scene to get more familiar with the shadows in FilaToon.

Going to Filatoon after using Iray for a few years means relearning how shadows work in non PBR render engines, but its a sacrafice I am more than willing to deal with. We've been given something amazing.

How do you guys deal with glass, water, and that kinda stuff? Leave 'em as it is or manage to do some FilaToon shaders? If you're leaving 'em non-FilaToon, which is best: Iray or 3Delight?

Depending on the scene, I'll sometimes use "Glass for Filament" from the store for things like water droplets and such.
