Want to double-check: does anyone else find that anime eyebrows 1, 4 and 6 just don't exist? Or is it just me?

(Eyebrow 1 loads eyebrow 8, eyebrow 4 loads eyebrow 9, and eyebrow 6 loads eyebrow 11.)

You're right... because the brow texture maps in Toon Starter Essentials Expansion package are wrongly named, so they overwrite the maps in Toon Starter Essentials 3 of 3 when you install the product package...( and one Preset file is missing...surprise)

Only difference on my side is that I installed the Expansion package in another Daz Library, so no file was overwritten but it's just done reversely, i.e. when I load Eyebrows 08, it loads Eybrows 01's textures.

I'm fed up with filling tickets ... I reported another bug in G9 Starter Essentials 7 days ago, nobody has responded to me so far from Daz side ~~ hoho.

Anyway, I corrected these issues myself ~~ If there's an updated package later on, there'll be no harm to me.

I really want to use the facepalm emoji, but I can't~

So the textures are correct in Toon Starter Essentials 3? (Aside from the naming, because QA are clearly doing an ~amazing~ job lately... ahahh)  I'll dig them out of that and overwrite the bad ones, so I can at least use the eyebrows that I want.

Edit: here's another weird one. In both files, do you have a black outline version for what should be toon brow 10? I have the b&w map and the grey outline, but I can't find a black outline one?

When using Spotlight in filatoon, you need to adjust the Display>Raylength value and put it in the range to penetrate the target or it will not work. Please note that this is a real difference from the way it has been done until now.

Nope, except for Eyebrows 14, others are all wrong, incl. files names and coding of DUF files as well as the file names of texture maps ~~ What I have is a better case, but on your side (you installed the expansions into the same Daz Library), you have to uninstall them and correct them in the IM package ~~ because the correct files in Toon Starter Essentials 3/3 have already been overwritten by the files from Toon Expansion package

There's no texture map for Eyebrows 10 - Black Outline (though the file name states Black Outline ), because the eyebrows style is very thin, so just a Solid and Tinted. I had to change the file name to "Tinted"

I cheated and took the ones from Starter Essentials 3 and emptied them into a folder with the ones already installed, renamed them all correctly and put them back in the folder, then find/replaced the names in the .duf files to match.

I think the people who don't use DIM are probably doing it right, haha...

That makes sense with Eyebrows 10! Thanks. :)

Ah, finally the Spotlights are doing what they should do. Now it is time to learn about matCaps and LUT.

I don't see how this is any better than 3Delight, which made a pretty good "toon like" render.

Glad I'm not the only one. Its nice but very limited, the lack of light control ambient shadows etc makes it rather boring.

I like how you've got the shaders looking here. Is there post work involved? Looks almost painterly

Anyone got a link to a thread with examples of the 3DLight renders... would love to compare?

Yes, I always use postwork. But more for the colours and to reduce the appearence of HD Details. Anyways, in this case I have used an adjustment layer to improve the contrast. I liked the ourcome and I will consider that in future projects with Filatoon, as well.

I am not sure if this is what you are asking for, but this is the third iteration of NPR renders in the Art Studio. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/516106/more-non-photorealistic-renders-npr-iii/p1.

Pretty much exactly what i was looking for... i quickly noticed that other programs were referenced and the mention of numerous passes being required to achieve some very nice results.

i'm sure renders that start off in filtoon would equally benefit from further refinements but surely filatoon is now a very good starting point and an easily accessible option for anyone looking to get started.

Experimenting with faking effects and using iray canvases for FilaToon renders.

So there are four lights in this scene. One distant light set to a dark purple with shadows, and three orange-ish spotlights outside each window with a wide spread and no shadows to add some glow.

The light shafts are props from the Filament Atmospheres product scaled down and positioned at each window, mimicking a technique i've seen in older videogames to create fake light shafts. I also adjusted the glass of the windows to be emissives so they're affected by bloom.

Finally, I used an iRay canvas to render out a depth map, making sure the fake light shafts were set to NOT be visible in render (this doesn't affect Filament renders at all, so you can set it and forget it), and used that in Krita to add a depth-of-field blur and to make the background a bit darker.

I really wanted to add a Ambient Occlusion canvas too, but for the life of me I couldn't get any decent results from that.

But yeah, aside from that one hiccup, i'm really glad with how this came out!

Wow, I might start playing around with filament now after seeing this. This looks fantastic.

My latest, lots of trying out different things with this image, it is quite difficult to do a daytime image without a lot of wash out. Trying to get deeper shadows have yet to get properly, both characters are Vicky 9 mixed with other G9 character morphs. Now that was interesting as found adding in G9 characters onto Toon G9 got some wildly out of proportioned figures, where you would have a skinny torso and overly large hips. blush But after a lot of trial and error and learning how different Toon G9 is to G8F, I think I worked it out. Anyways here are the results of all this. smiley

Okay, I guess I get a hang on LUT. I think next time I should experiment with new ones and dive deeper into what they actually do. The same goes for MatCaps. I know what they look like, but I don't really understand them yet.

It nice when you can tie unrelated products together with the same shader, and then add the Filatoon shader.
