Back to 4.8

I want to go back from 4.9 to 4.8

4.9 is eating my RAM and is stalling my mac

Where can I download previous versions?

You would have had to have kept your installer.  You may be able to put in a ticket to see if Customer Service can assist you.

How is 4.9 eating your ram.  I am on a MacBook Pro and have not seen that.

Given that every release may, for some users, cause unforseen difficulties, and without speculating as to what they might be, perhaps it would be a sensible idea to introduce a system, in the future, that does allow multiple DS versions to be installed alongside one another, each in its own folder, each with its own configuration and CMS database.

Whilst folks would be advised to make backups; Daz imo, should also be advising this; experience states that some folks will have issues that others don't.

This is because the various (and mutitudinous) combinations of software and hardware make it almost impossible to check them all.

Before installing 4.9 on my iMac, I would like to back up 4.8; aside from the program install folder itself, what other things should I back up (e.g., in Libraries/Application Support)?

I posted in a thread what to copy. Sec I'll see if I can find it.

Make sure you get the exact path to the folder to ensure it goes back to the correct place.

    Backup these:
    C:\Users\<YOUR_NAME_HERE>\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D
    C:\Users\<YOUR_NAME_HERE>\Documents\DAZ 3D
    C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D

Wherever you keep the Libraries - I have a number in the one below:
    E:\Documents\Daz 3D All Libraries

Wherever DIM/Install Manager files are downloaded to:
    E:\Documents\Daz 3D\InstallManager
You could add another download folder specifically for 4.9 as I did when I tried it. Example:
    E:\Documents\Daz 3D\InstallManager\Downloads 4-9

You may have a folder for other downloads:
    E:\Documents\Daz 3D All other Downloads
Probably no real reason to backup this before trying 4.9, but backups are always a good idea.

Do you happen to know what Registry keys need to be restored on Windows?

Nothing obvious in the registry, and a LOT of entries.

Either make a disk image of your whole system, or uninstall Daz 4.9; then reinstall 4.8. After that copy the files back across.

That should get you back pretty close. You might lose one or two preferences as (for example) the libraries are stored in the registry, but everything will work. You could also backup the Current_User key, but tbh, I'd want to test that in a virtual environment and then create an execurable registry script, which would also be tested in a virtual environment.

Considering all I've notice to losing is the location of libraries, and default files to load and a couple of settings - I've not bothered.

You would need to contact Support, only the latest version is available for download.

Never mind I restored the application from my Timemachine backup.

Its up and running smoothly again.

My apologies. How about one from you for being rude.

I don't know where they are on a Mac.

Just restoring everything to pre-4.9, including DAZ Studio in Program Files, seems to work fine. Takes a long time though! Registry does not seem to be a problem at all :-)

    Thanks for your advice.
