Categorizing in 4.9 stopped working for me

When I first installed 4.9 my custom categories came across OK and I could still create new ones. But that stopped working yesterday. Now if I try and create a category from a library folder it creates an empty category but doesn't put anything in it. If I right click an item, select categorize and navigate to the category it shows the yellow tick that say it is in the category but when I look at the category it isn't there.

I can still see the stuff that I categorized before version 4.9 but it seems all non-encrypted content I categorized in 4.9 has gone. The Daz Connect items I categorized are still there though.

I have put a support ticket in. Has anyone else had this problem?

I had this problem when I used the 4.9 beta. I quickly gave up on trying to get it working and went back to 4.8. I hope they figure this stuff out soon as I'd like to use 4.9.

I can't seem to be able to categorise either. I right click and add an item to its category but the item doesn't appear. 

Has anybody found a solution to this? I'm attempting to organise the chaos of my libraries.

Same problem—plus all my existing custom categories disappeared along with most of my non-DAZ files :(

I backed up my 4.8 installer. I'm not ready to use it yet but if I lose my old categories it will be back to 4.8 for me!

I've got so much stuff I find it difficult to keep track of it without using categories. Maybe this is a sign saying I should stop buying new stuff and make better use of the stuff that I've already got

Peter, does it stay empty?  I've noticed that if I've been doing something else, such as rendering, then populating the categories window can sometimes take nearly a minute.  But they do show up, at least for me.

They do seem permanently empty. I've left them, gone back to them later, still nothing.

Fully agree with both the 'to much stuff' and the 'make better use of it' comments! Asset management relies pretty much entirely on meta-data, categories and product information and most non-DAZ information seemed to go AWOL. So I'm back at 4.8 and I'm not going back to DIM for quite a while now!

Unfortunately There are already many category things porlbem already.  Actually these problmes may not happen,

if DAZ offer clear guide about User_data, product_data and usage of ContentDB, or manually ctegorize things for User.

But DAZ have not done , and not care much before.

on the ohter hand, DAZ need to push Smart Content, with DAZ connect things. then DAZ add some neat improvement about Smart Content.

but to use Smart Content as main tool to serhcing everything, User must need knowledge about User_data, product_data,

and clear rule when user edit meta-data (actually just add category, or just change category means edit meta-data)

then as true meaning, It is better User know how to edit them by Content DB editor. with how to keep these modified data safety.

(simply because, there are many chance we lost records of DB, then need reset them)

 

I really feel, DAZ do not understand these things.  DAZ programmer or DAZ believe they have offered already, good document for DS 4.9,

 DS 4.9 main purpose, is actually load contents to render (or load preset, etc) then adjust each property.   then DS manage content with meta-data things

(about ds 4.9, daz push meta-data things more)   but DAZ do not understand, Uesr need more document to manage them.

I have carefully seen,, after daz release ds 4 then, add  meta-data,, how they improve, and how they announce uesr,

but nowdays I feel, there is clear limitation of DAZ . after all,, DAZ main concern is How announce or promote DAZ shop items.

then daz studio is tool to sell them.  but most of user should install or made many file which not offered by daz too.

to work with all files (daz offered contents, and not daz offered contents), we must need to clear knowledge aobut DS

how use database ,and how user can access tthese data. 

I strongly against, when daz release ds 4.9 beta,, without offer these document or FAQ.

btu after all, DAZ stille keep their bud habbit.  and may not change so,,, maybe two month later,, we may not talk about

these things any more..

And,, daz nowdays, often say they will offer good meta-data at least about daz product by DAZ connect.(now they employ strict librarian etc,,)
I have no interesting,, the librarian is good cloud PC or, sprict or, actually human.

but I can see, 297/1426  product sitll set as Lost and found category. even though I up-date meta-data by DAZ connect.

when we use DB actuall meaning,, if 10% more records have not filled correctly, we may not use it. to serching items.

then If user use Smart Content for serch items,, actually it need real meta-data.  why DAZ can push smart content, without offerring them,

as main tool to serch items of daz studio?  

I often hear,,Mr and Mrs DAZ keep working, and actually they hard work I think, but it is no referecne, when we talk about actuall status of daz studio,

and smart content things.  DAZ can not push smart content as main tool to serch contents ,without offer meta-data.. 

or perfectly rely on user.  (that means DAZ must need to offer more good documents about data things for uesr)

at curernt both condithons not filled . why User can approve then cooperate DAZ to push DAZ connect things?

I managed to get it working again. I found that going into content DB maintannance and re-importing the metadata made most of the stuff I couldn't categorize before work OK, It didn't fix it for a few things but it did for most.

Interesting. Maybe we could merge this thread with this other one: 4.9 categories so we have one spot to go to for info on categories problems (and fixes hopefully). Any update on the DAZ side related to fixing this?
