Database fail: content disappeared from Smart Content; DB won't accept edits

After upgrading to DS 4.9, some of my content showed up as the little not-found icon, so I exported my user data, then removed orphan file references + reimported metadata. After that, most of my non-DAZ files disappeared from my Smart Content pane, including all of my saved files. When I tried to fix this my manually editing the Content DB, none of my changes get implemented.

I did a lot of customization of my database, so my files appeared as I wanted them to in the Smart Content pane. All of that is gone. I have regular Time Machine back-ups, but I don't know what files to restore, and if restoring them will work to get me back to the pre-4.9 content DB state.

Can I restore my database via my backups? If not, what needs to be done to fix my database so I can edit the entries using my preferred categorization? Without customization, Smart Content isn't a worthwhile content navigation system for me. That's doubly true when a whole bunch of files simply don't appear.

My saved files are saved in a different location than my DAZ and non-DAZ purchased files. However, the non-DAZ files are also missing, despite being within the same file structure. I'm running DS on a Mac. The problem persists after a restart.

  • Did you save new products when you were categorising? That's a problem as DS will overwrite those any time there is an official product update - which happens often with 4.9. There si extended discussion of this in the release thread, I think.

  • Oh, wow, that's a huge amount of unfiltered thread pages to read through to sort this out :(

I didn't see anything (so far…still reading) about the problem with not being able to save any changes in the Edit Content DB panel (e.g., I hit accpet, but nothing updates). Is that covered in the thread?

    Hello,

I have the same issue with my imported Old DB ( not editable ) but you can work around it easily.

Simply right click on a categoy to show the contextual menu.  Then you can "Duplicate" ( category and subcategory ).

The newly created main category and all it's sub-categories will be editable and you can delete the old one.

Personnaly I still have one problem left.  My newly installed content ( installed with DIM ) does not show as "new" anymore since the upgrade. Do you have any idea on this ?

EDIT: I work on Win7x64 but it should work the same way on a MAC since it's a DS functionality, not an OS functionality.

  • I can't get categorize to work even for the standard categories. I've gone back to 4.8, pending a DB update. It's just not worth the effor to try to fix it when I'd have to read through a 16 pages thread to pick out answers.

So what is the solution?  When I updated to 4.9 I also noticed files missing from smart content.  I can find them in content manager, and I can click on them to show in smart content, but as soon as I close it and check smart content again it's gone.  I've reimported metadata and reset the database. I've uninstalled and reinstalled individual file. Is there a solution?  The next thing I guess I'll try is to uninstall everything except Daz, content namager and Genesis starter essentials, but obviously would just like to make it work like it's supposed to.
