finding items

edited January 2016 in Daz Studio Discussion

I cannot believe I have to ask this. I backed up data before installing studio 4.9 (from 4.6) as suggested. But now 4.9 can't locate certain items such as Vic 4 base. How do I get it to find her again? It finds other objects but not the characters.

I just Reinstalled (vic 4.2) from manager...still doesn't show. The menu shows but not the character. I can't get back into 4.6 so lost these characters until we find the way back to them. Endless games.

Is the content directory you installed V4 to also made known to the content directory manager? It has to be added in both DAZ Studio and Poser.

Also, has the system finished migrating the data in the database? You would see that in the lower left corner, 'Converted X of Y items.

  • Ok I had to install powerloader as well. I feel compelled to ask due to the games as stated. I've Vic 4.2... will a character that requires "Vic 4" still work?

Yes, there's only Vic 4.2, vic4 content will work with her.

Victoria 4 and Michael 4 work just fine without Powerloader installed so that was not the solution.

  • Last line = classic.

I'm not sure what to do in content directory manager. Lower left corner of what window? Didn't the older versions have a search for new items?

This is a very good point that I think needs emphasis — I've been following the 4.9 threads since the beta came out, and I only found out the other week that the database migration runs in the background and can take some time to complete, especially if you have a lot of content. Several "it's not working" situations reported recently have apparently been due to people not realising the migration is still chugging along.

The message is displayed in the lower left corner of the main window.  I see something like "Migrating 189 of 68920 items." (or whatever values, the first value is going up as it does the migration.)

In the Content Directory Manager window, under "Current Directories", there are four lists:

    Daz Connect Data

    DAZ Studio Formats

    Poser Formats

    Other Imported Formats

You can click the '+' in front of each of these to expand it and show what is in each one.  If you use both DAZ Studio and Poser content, the folder CONTAINING each poser runtime or DAZ Studio folder you have products installed into should be listed in both of these two places.  Basically, it's a list of every Windows folder in which you have content installed, and tells DAZ Studio where to look for your content.  I'm not sure what's there by default, because I modify my mine, so when I install a product in a new location (instead of in an existing folder that's already listed here), I would have to click on "DAZ Studio Formats", then click the Add button to the left, then browse to and select the folder to add it to this list.  Then I repeat for "Poser Formats" since I use both.  I think if you install into the default location you wouldn't have to mess with normally, but if you move your content (or do something like change DS versions or OS versions where the default might possibly be different) then you'll have to go in here and tell DAZ Studio where to look for content if it's now looking in the wrong place.

( There are other things one can also do in this window if you decide you want more info about it.)

Oh, and when that migration is done, the message in the lower left corner disappears, but if you look in your log file (Help > Troubleshooting > "view log file"), then scroll down to the end, you'll see something like "Migration succeeded.".  Doesn't necessarily mean it worked, but it does mean it thinks it's done.
