Glow effect from a television, moniter etc.

How can I achieve this effect using the basic tools supplied with D/S.

    Which renderer?

If it's Iray, you need to make the screen an Iray material...basically that means applying the Iray Uber shader if it isn't an Iray material and then setting the emission parameters.

If it is 3Delight, then you need to apply an area light shader (Omnifreaker Arealight) and plug in the diffuse map into the light color and the ambient (ambient needs to be some none zero value...the higher the brighter it will be).

    Something like this?

  • Hi,

Yes Zilvergrafix, that's the type of effect I am looking for.

mjc1016 what do you mean by "plug in the diffuse map to the light colour"?

    Thanks both for replying.

    John.

If you want an actual picture to show up, the image will be in the Diffuse channel for the screen's surface.  That image needs to be put into the Ambient and the Light Color channels for the omniArea light, also.

In the Iray shader it would be what you plug into the Emission color.
