importing an .OBJ file produces an empty node (no geometry)

Hey guys,
So when I import certain OBJ files into Daz, I often get an empty node with no geometry. I can import these objects into other applications just fine, like zBrush. But for some reason, only when I try importing them into Daz I get this problem.
I am hoping that you seasoned veterans may be able to illuminate the issue for me.
Many thanks.

Are you sure it is an empty node?
For some items, they import with an Opacity value of 0%. So, one of the 'no shows', see if there is something in the Surface tab and check the Opacity value.
It's also possible for a bare mesh to import at a scale that's so tiny you can't see it, or so huge you don't realise the camera, floor grid, and the entire scene is inside it. A lot depends on which program it was created in (different programs have different default scale sizes).
Also, when you import there's a set of drop-down menus to select scaling and orientation presets. Importing isn't simply a matter of click-click-wham there's your object, you must look at the import options and select which ones are best for you to use.
Try importing it into one of your other programs, then exporting it back out as an object. Could be that there are errors in the OBJ, or unhandled things that your other software is "assuming" better than Daz, or has "fixed" common OBJ errors. (Flipped normals can also make items seem invisible.)
Along with micro-scale, you can also have macro-scale... Item is so large, you can't see it, because the camera view is looking at individual particles, it is so small in realation to the model.
mcasual has a 'sizer' script...it's great to use if it is a scale problem.

If you load an item and suspect it is at either extreme, that it can't be seen because of it, then selecting that item and running that script will tell you.
hi tricegift, i had the same problem, what i do now is export dae or obj files to daz 3, then export files as dae or obj into daz 4.8 it seems to work for me, every thing gets imported
Thanks for the info guys. It was helpful. In one of my objects, it was just a matter of positioning (rather than being zero'd on axis, the object was thousands of units away. Thus pressing the "frame" button helped to find it.). In my second case, however, it is still empty, even though its opacity is 100%, it is scaled properly, and it is position in center frame. I will try your suggestions of importing into another program and back again to see if that helps.
Another issue I have been getting is with importing FBX files. Many of them see to be in an "exploded" state, where all its parts are expanded out in space in different directions. Has anyone had this issue with FBX importing?
Thanks again for the huge assist.
