Bounding Boxes & Bones

so when i change a prop into figure to riggit, first bone(hip)'s bounding box happens to be bigger than the prop itself, which means (among other nuissances) that you cannot select any children regions of the figure directly in the viewport. actually, bounding boxes are in general a pain: they tend to appear (or at least end up) at weird directions, or even displaced from the bones they belong. can they be snapped somehow -- or at least, how can i edit them without messing with the bone's parameters?
