I acccidently uninstalled 4.8 on my Daz IM. No prob right?? Just re-install...been here before. Well apparently 4.9 went full and now 4.8 can't be retrieved.
My problem there is this:
4.9 requires you to log in to see your smart content apparently.(??)
A chore I can't perform without getting a PostgrSQL error!!
All I did was uninstall and re-install...pffttt!! Why the math book all of a sudden!?! I was AVOIDING 4.9 for the above reason!!
Grrrr....
Any Halps!?!

You don't have to log in. Did you have PostgreSQL installed?
I'm with the OP. Is there a way to download 4.8? Daz should always allow us to go back two versions. Simply becaused of plug-ins.
Honestly I don't know.I'm still a newb so I don't know what that is!? 4.8 ran fine with out it apparently. 4.9 I'm having to use my Conent Library which is a pain in th @ss & I can't find some of the stuff I had before...
My thinking also...
Have you folks checked your DIM downloads folder? Unless DIM was set to delete installed files, there should still be a copy of the 4.8 installer there that can be manually installed.
4.9 is the current version and would have overwritten 4.8 when it was downloaded as the OP has already found out.
So much for automated downloaders. And some people.still question why there are those of us who prefer to manage our data ourselves, rather than having software do it for us. Being a Luddite, I don't use DIM (although it is installed). On the other hand I do have copies of almost all the Studio version installers and know exactly where they are located should I need them, because I deliberately downloaded them and put them there.
Thanx for that fine demonstration of your computer nerd prowess...
Now. anyone have a solution to the problem?? A way to locate the missing files or find download 4.8 somewhere?? I re-downloaded from this website but no login once 4.9 fires up...no smart content. It's slowed my productivity a crawl having to pull from the content library instead...
Ya gonna look again but thinking no dice. Not set to erase but POOF!! anyways...
Cause of this..
If you installed 4.9 release version then yes, the package will have replaced 4.8 if you don't have a back-up. As Mike says, you don't have to log-in to use DS - there's a Work Offline option, and you can hide the Connect dialogue if you wish. If PostgreSQL is not working that is a more serious issue - what OS are you running, and what security software do you use?
I checked the DIM. Shows the PostgreSQL's as installed. Found 2 of them in their folders but 2 (Valentines??) 1 Beta and the other not show nothing in their file paths.Tried uninstalling/re-installing the 2 and got poop..
I run Windblows 7 btw..
Checked my quarantines on Spybot and all the Iobit stuff and found nothing..
Attached is the pop up I'm getting..
Issue isn't using DS it's no smart content which is slowing me down tremendously..Wasn't a problem with the post's on 4.8.
Then there's this...tried to applythe Post file location...won't do it..
Can someone just direct me to somewhere to redownload 4.8?? Surely someone saved it somewhere...You can have this 4.9 crap!! Seriously!! Why make a connect option that blocks your "Smart" content!?!
Guess it''s 'Dumb' now..
I think you would need to contact Daz Support to try to get a copy of 4.8 as they only ever seem to have the latest addition available for download

At the risk of offending you once again with my "nerd prowess", have you actually checked the DIM download cache itself, as suggested? It can usually be found here:
C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads
If there, the files for version 4.8 will probably be within a folder called DAZ Studio_4.5_(xx-bit). Note xx is either 64 or 32, depending upon which you are using. It is in this folder since version 4.5 was a major update to Studio and all subsequent versions were based upon it.
If you find that folder and look inside, you'll see a number of nested folders (i.e. Daz 3D\DAZStudio4\). drill down and you'll find the complete set of DAZ Studio files that DIM extracted. Scroll down to the DAZStudio.exe file and right-click on it, selecting "properties" from the dropdown menu. Look under the "Details" tab and you'll find the version number for DAZ Studio. If it says 4.8.x.xx, you're halfway there. Unfortunately, there is not an installer, so utilizing the files found requires DIM.
If you unistalled DIM, it must be re-installed (it is a separate program that does not require DAZ Studio to be installed). As Richard says, when it first starts, check "work offline" so it doesn't download anything new. Now, with DIM open, you should see DAZ Studio 4.8 listed under the Ready to Install tab.
One frustrating thing about being locked out of getting older versions is checking plugins.
Sometimes I hit behavior that seems unexpected... but I don't know if my memory of how it worked in 4.8 is accurate. And no way to confirm other than asking around.
Looked. No dice. All 4.9 now...
And thanx btw. Sorry bout the edge but when you lose your shit for simply un then re-installing...
Someone might have suggested this, but do you backup using Windows. Just a thought and don't know if it will work since I use a separate backup.
I was wondering this also. Will restoring Windows to an earlier restore point resurrect 4.8?
"Will restoring Windows to an earlier restore point resurrect 4.8?"
Yes, it will, assuming we're talking about a bonafide backup and not Windows Restore. The latter merely restores system settings to a previous state - it does not recover files. If you have a proper backup of your boot drive, then there are options available. However, if you have a habit of storing data files of any kind on your boot drive, one must understand that anything since the backup was done may be lost, especially if your backup is a disk image. You'll also need to redo any updates to the OS and software that may have come along after the backup was created as well.
Having said that, most backup software should allow you to browse your backups and recover individual files and folders as well as do a full restore. So it should be possible to recover your DIM cache with the files necessary to install 4.8. without resorting to a full recovery.
hi petercat. i tried the restore function on my pc to try to go back to 4.8, it did not work, 4.8 was still parts of 4.9. in the end i uninstalled both 4.8 and 4.9. i found that i had 4.8 on a memory stick, loaded that and am now back to 4.8 conplete. forget 4.9, i found the render function on 4.8 is better than 4.9.
I'm very frustrated because I wasn't even given the option to update, it simply updated itself. I'm assuming that it did so during my use of DIM after a purchase from the store. I typically allow updates without reading them all. Not after this. It's really frustrating because when I check my downloads under DIM, 4.8 is only available in there as the beta version. I've been willing to put up with a lot, but being forced into updating is too much. Stupid thing gives me a PostGre whatever error on start up every time. Apparently it's fine once I log in, but it's still inconvenient, dumb, and irritating.
4.9 keeps losing half of what I had installed. I've been working for two weeks on trying to get my database back up and running to where it was before 4.9 dumped everything. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH DAZ RIGHT NOW. I reinstall something and then something else disappears. It's getting where I'm pulling out my hair and I don't have that much to spare!
Is it going to take 5 minutes every time I add a figure to a scene?!?! Incredible...
DS won't be auto-updated, it has to be checked in the list (and it will be listed under updates if you have an older version installed). (DIM will not auto-update or auto-install DS - or anything else - except if a user has created a new account from the Get DAZ Studio page and then isntalled DIM on a system that hasn't had it installed before.)
I discovered recently that I had the Dynamic control plug in for 4.9 installed. My initial thought was 'oh crap' somehow I downloaded and installed it when I was trying so hard not to. So I uninstalled it. Then I went searching amongst my files to see if I had something prior that would work with it in the downloads folder. Imagine my surprise when I found the plugin for 4.8 in there as I thought it would have been overridden. Went back into DIM and did a search and no dynamic control was showing up as downloaded despite the fact it was clearly in the folder. So I did a manual install and it's working beautifully but still not showing up in the DIM folder as being in there.
I have no idea how this occured and if I look in the to be downloaded category 4.9 shows up there but is definitely not in my folder of downloaded files. Needless to say I made a backup of the 4.8 file but I'm still puzzled over what happened. I don't have a clue...I love DIM but this is just really strange. Just mentioning this as Richard commented on auto updating and I agree with what he said but I'm really puzzled over what happened.
That is the expected behavior -- it won't display an older version in the Ready to Install tab if there is a newer version in the Ready to Download tab.
