Why I can't see all my purchased items in Daz Studio

So far, I did check various options, and I can't find a solution to this.

I have a pretty big library, which I used mainly for Poser; but now I find myself using DS more and more; so it make sense that I get accustomed to it.

I did discover that as wonderful thing; DS download from D3D the items purchased; so I told myself that this is the best thing after sliced bread! No more fiddling with directories, installers and issues because the folder structure is different from the standard....or so I thought.

Basically, among my items; most of them does not even show up in the library. I have a ton of old stuff, like V3, A3, M3 and also V4, M4 and A4; plus the various animals, dragons and such.

Most of them won't show up in the library; most of the figures won't show at all, and some are partially imported; leaving me for example with the base A3 pack, but no expresisons, no poses, beyond what is in the standard A3 package. Same goes for clothes; I can only see part of the items that I did purchase.

As test, I told myself that would be interesting to see how DS handle my 40 Gb library, which is mostly built for poser (I did install every single item; and for the items that were sold as zip file, I extract the files in the appropriate folder); and it seems that it was able to find some items, but they won't show as smart content; only if I choose to see the files tab. This is basically not helping me at all, since it would be the same hell on earth, that I experience with Poser; where you have to manually find mat and files; where you have no idea if a file is for a specific figure, because your library has hundreds of items....

Am I doing something wrong, or DS is optimized only for new content?

Even the parenting is bogus at times; like when I use BelBel for example, and try to add a cloth set for A3; which result in wrong parenting or no parenting at all.

I love DS so far; but if I move to DS, I would like to be due to the fact that my content is managed in a better way, compared to poser.

There are two separate issues -- first, making sure that DS is correctly seeing your older, non-Connect-installed content, and second, that not all content currently has the metadata to make it smart.

If you look in the Content Library pane under "Daz Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats", you should be able to see all of your non-Connect-installed content.  Let's start by making sure your content is showing up there; once that part is sorted we can address making the non-Smart content Smart.

    1. Smart content will only show items it has metadata for.  It is also 'context' aware...so if something is for V4 (and it has metadata) and she isn't loaded, it won't show.

    2.  Most of the older stuff is found in the Poser Formats section of the Content Library (not Smart Content).

    3.  If it doesn't 'fit to' or parent, right clicking on the item, in question should bring up a context menu and allow you to 'fix' the problem.

I see; I just wiped everything from my drive, that was installed through the DAZ manager, and installed again DS.

In this way I can start with a clean state, at least for the DAZ items that are installed directly by the manager.

The Poser directory is still there; I will add it to the library manager later on, once I get at least the smart content first.

So I was wrongly thinking that if something is on the download manager, then it was supposed to be recognized by DS. Can I add the metadata or is something that can be done only by DAZ?

Can I add also metadata to make non-smart item, smart?

The fitting is strange; I see only the option to change the parent; but no matter what I choose, the piece of cloth does not move when I change the pose. Trying again now after wiping everything and downloading again the content.

If you cannot find products in the DAZ Studio Smart Content tab in the subtab "All" or "Available" make sure that you do not have a checkmark placed in the filter box "Filter by Context".

    - - -

DAZ Studio 4.9 has a new function called "Filter by Context" in the smart content tab.

If "Filter by Context" is checked then in the Smart Content tab only those products will show up that are defined to be compatible with the item selected in the scene.

Example: If Genesis 3 male is selected it will only show wardrobe items compatible with G3M.

If you remove the "Filter by Context" checkmark the smart content tab will show  ALL items and products.

Example: You could install all your last orders directly inside DAZ Studio.

  • Thanks for all the great advice you gave me.

The issue seems gone for most of the item; not sure if this is because I had DS installed for years; and I just updated when a new version was released.

After cleaning up everything and after download everything once again, via the download manager; now I see the items mostly appearing in the smart content area. Many are still not showing correctly, going in wrong categories, or not being categorized at all (but they show up when I search them by name). At least now the setup is usable, and thanks to the link posted earlier, I know how to modify the DB metadata, so I can fix the items that are not behaving as expected, or categorized correctly.

BTW it was not related to the context filter; I didn't even notice that the feature was there, which is a great feature IMO!

Last thing that is a bit off: when I download the items, with the download manager; some won't show up as usable in DS; instead I see the portrait as if it was not dowlonaded. I did mark the checkbox in the download manager, to install the products. Some show up fine, some show up as downloadable. Not a big deal, I just download them from within DS, and they appear correctly and are usable. Just curious to know if it is a known issue or if this is how it is supposed to be (although, if this is the correct behavior, where I download from download manager, install and then need to install again in DS, why some items appear directly in DS?).

Thanks again for the great help!
