Rons Brushes NOT COMPATIBLE

Hello everyone especially Rons Brushes,

Just purchased a load of Rons Brushes and the 'Ron's Dirt' / 'Ron's Sand' can not be Loaded into the Photoshop brushes. Have loaded 'Ron's Light Dusting' and works perfectly.

What am I doing wrong with the Dirt / Sand Brushes?

Tried on 2 PC's with version 9 and version 12.1 of Photoshop and these did not load

Awesome Brushes and Effects, it's like being a kid in a Candy Store...lol...and adds that finishing touch and 5% extra magic to your artworksheart

See attached screenshot.

my oldest version is 12.  I loaded up that dinosaur (I keep it for certain actions that I own that only use the older versions) and dropped in Rons aging dirt.

    aging dirt -  no problems.
Flying dirt - did not load.

light dusting v7 - did load. (24-25 obvi did not load)

so the downside of the older PS versions is they are not backwards compatible. So, unless we have brushes specifically for our ancient versions, they won't work.
I don't know any tricksy ways to get newer version brushes to work in older apps. I have some ideas, but they are crazy time consuming and would violate Ron's usage terms.

Thanks for taking the time to reply 'Lyoness'...suspected this may be the case, but hoped there was another easier solution.

You need to read the information on the product page for Ron's Brushes pretty carefully if you are not using the latest (or at least a recent) version of Photoshop.

Light Dusting comes with both Photoshop 7 and Photoshop 2025 versions, so the PS 7 version should work with any version >= 7
Dirt however only has PS 2023 version, which likely only works with versions >= 2023
Sand has only PS 2021 version, so would only work for versions >= 2021

I use Photoshop Elements (and an old version at that) and bought a couple of sets that don't work there. Basically it's happy with anything marked for CS but not for CC. I have over 70 of Ron's sets and love them - I kept the ones that didn't work because they have extras like pre-made background images and .png overlays which I can use.

One day I might splurge on a Photoshop subscription and be able to use them all! (Although I don't in general like subscription software)

Thank you for your comment...yes, you are correct 'read carefully'...although I had an impulse purchase with the 'Ron's Dirt' as he said in one of the advert screens 'the BEST I have ever created'...I thought, I'm having this...lol...sadley now I can not try the best he's ever created.

The extra 'pre-made' backgrounds are also great and sadly a Photoshop Subscription is out of my monthly costs but agree, not really a fan of Monthly subscriptions either.

    This might help

    https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/is-it-possible-to-convert-photoshop-cc-brushes-abr-for-photoshop-7-compatibility/td-p/13263592

I buy Rons Brushes in the full knowledge they wont work for me (yet) I current have CS5.1, but I plan to get a PS Subscription at some point now I have a new computer.

I have used Abrmate in the past (referenced it the link) - not everything will convert, newer feature wont, but it will get you some use out of the brush. I don't have Ron's Dirt so haven't tried converting it.

Thank you for your response...congrats on the new computer, that's great news....sadly a new PC is only a dream for me...lol

That converter does look interesting, however, I do not want to go do that path of taking someones work and converting it as to me that's unethical...I made a impulse buy and it came back to bite me, so to speak...lol...I'll just have to live with it.

...although I did see 'Ron's Aging Dirt and Grit' afterwards and purchased that as well, this works perfectlysmiley
