None of the G9 Makeup Scripts work with MGAB characters I own. Any idea why?

I was playing around with Bonnye by MGAB and, since she didn't come with any makeup, I decided to try one of the makeup sets that are sold with Victoria 9 and others. I spent about an hour trying to figure out why it wasn't working, assuming that I wasn't selecting the right thing (right character part, surfaces, etc) until I figured out that the scripts just don't work on any character using the materials provided for that character (no matter if they were loaded as part of the original figure, or added to another G9 character using the materials application).

I tried one of the more recent ones and it doesn't work either. So, apparently their approach to creating their character's materials are incompatible with those scripts. Does anyone know why? I like the couple of characters I have and was considering buying one or two others, but if they aren't compatible with the other stuff I have purchased, it may not be worth even these discounted prices.

Any idea if there is an easy fix?

  • What skin shader is Bonnye using? Select the figure and, in the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane, one of the skin surfaces then look at top-left of the Surfaces pane. Also, quite a few Gensis 9 make-up sets are for application to a Geometry Shell rather than direct to the figure.

Those Makeup scripts only work on the surfaces with PBRSkin shader. This character has Iray Uber shader... you have to apply PBRSkin shader on its skin surfaces before using the scripts.

  • Ah, that makes sense. Is there a script or something that can convert between them or does this require someone knowing the ins and outs of the two different shaders?

    There's a "one-click" product... https://www.daz3d.com/1-click-pbrskin

Or you can always manually apply the shader and tweak the settings of skin surfaces as needed...

Thank you! This makes sense, and I was able to use the script above to resolve the problem. It also addresses a question I had recently about what the difference between the uber and pbr skins were. Now I have a basic understanding of that (albeit...only enough to avoid the uber if that is an option).
