DAZ install Manager - sort path installation order?

kenmokenmo Posts: 923

Just a pet peeve of mine and not sure if it is possible, but is there any way to sort the installation paths in alphabetical order? It would make it easier to locate which install path I need when installing new purchases from DAZ3D.

That way all my Figs paths, Props paths, etc would appear in order.

All the very best in 2025 to the staff of DAZ3D and it's many members.

It's not able to change the order of paths in DIM unless you re-create them... but you can:

    1) Fully close DIM, in File Browser, go to the folder: %appdata%\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\UserAccounts

    2) Open Account.ini file, change the order of paths under section [InstallPaths]. Save the file after making the modification.

The only file located in my userAccounts directory is the lone fil DazCentral.ini.

And there is a section there named Install Paths.

However I have 26 install Paths and it is insane to recommend deleting all and re-entering into the ini.

There must annd should be a simpler way of doing this!

Thanks but your suggestion is a task I do not wish to undertake.

    Happy New Kenmo

Ok, I bit the bullet and edited the [Install Paths] section of the DazCentral.ini and my install paths are not in exact alphabetical order but they are in a more managable order.

Daz needs to get rid of these Windows 3.1 ini files and make things more easier to manage to re-order.

A .ini file is probbaly safer and easier than a Registry entry.

Are you suggesting Microsoft abandon the registry and go back to Windows 3.1's a separate n ini for every program?

I'm suggesting that ranking systems by their age is not always ideal.

I am not basing my opinion on ageism. I am basing it on my own 35+ years as a database programmer (dBase, Clipper, Force xBase, VisualBasic/SQL)  and systems administrator of Novel Netware, Citrix Winframe, Windows and SUSE linux file & print servers.

I love vintage cars. I own a 1960 Corvette which I restored in 1983. But my 2016 Toyota Corolla is more comfortable to drive, safer, better fuel economy  and much more reliable. It is my experience technology improves products. So would you choose a b&w tube tv over a wide screen LED TV?

Continue to live in the past if you want to but do not dictate to me that I follow you.

I am not sure of your point - we are discussing using a .ini file for settings, not using an old operating system as such. If the .ini file works, and is relatively accessible for manual adjustment, it seems a sensible and defensible choice.

My original point is "There should be an option in the Install Manager" to sort your install paths. Someone then suggested I edit the .ini file

I then posted that editing an .ini file with 26 paths is a bit tedious.

Then you mentioned registry files vs .ini.

Not everyone maybe comfortable with editing an .ini file. And I stand by my point that the option to sort or re-arrange  "install paths" should be an option in "Daz Install Manager". Even if it was an registry entry, then it should still be an option in "DIM".

Not sure WHY every time I post a question or concern, you always seem to be at odds with my point of view. I am starting to take this a little personal.

Kindly reframe from replying in my threads, I would appreciate that greatly.

Happy New Year and ALL the Best in 2025.

I wasn't taking issue with the idea of being able to reorder install paths, I was taking issue with the "Daz needs to get rid of these Windows 3.1 ini files" part, which seemed to be using the age of the format as a reason (or an additional reason) to reject it.

I am not INTERESTED in debating this issue with you anymore. It appears you are more interested in arguing with me then assisting.
