Gen9, what decides what figures should be standalone?

Hey there,
I am really curious about what decides what figures should be split into their own mesh when exporting to Unity. When exporting Genesis 9 models, they get split up into:
Genesis9.shape (The body),
Genesis9Eyelashes.shape,
Genesis9Eyes,
Genesis9Mouth,
Genesis9Tear
However, when I add another figure, the mesh gets merged into Genesis9.shape, I dont really see it being different from the rest, so I am really curious on what decides it.
