How do I install third party content in 4.9 Please
![dannybrightonline](https://farnsworth-prod.uc.r.appspot.com/forums/uploads/userpics/945/n1QP4JD0VUZUI.jpg)
Hi again everyone. I want to make sure I'm not messing up. i downloaded some content from Most Digital Creations and I want to know how to install it. I tried the old way and it doesn't seem to work. Can someone help me. I know how to unpack the zip files and drage the files to My library (the old way). How does one go about it now with the new connection thing?
And is there any user manual that is specifically for 4.9?

Hi At least, install other shop content and find them with file structure, in 4.9,
cause no problem I think. it is not matter about DAZ connect or meta-data ,smart content things.![smiley smiley](http://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/regular_smile.png)
then you must find them as same as before.in content library.
(though I do not know, each item compatiblity with each ds version, it may be discribed. and if it have compatibility with 4.8.
most of items should work.
if old way (manually un-zip then install each contents with relative path, from your daz studio, and poser content root directory)
not to work to find installed files in Content library,
check Content Directroy manager. then ,root directory (ds and poser) are assgined correctly. or up-load the pic of your Content Directory manager.
pic of your content zip file structure,, ,and which directory you installed (drug and drop), may help to get more clear advice.
Note that "the new connection thing" doesn't mean the old manual installation has suddenly stopped working — I've been doing manual installs of DAZ content since the very first D|S version, and it still works perfectly.
We need more details; exactly which content are you trying to install, exactly where are you putting it, and exactly how is it not working? There are so many different ways to do things in D|S, it's very easy to miss a vital "doesn't seem important" detail that can lead to an immediate and simple solution to your problem.
This seems like a very straight-forward question to me. I'm not sure what other details or information could possibly be needed.
Note: I have a standard installation -- everything is on my C: Drive. There is nothing custom or unusual about how I set up Daz Studio.
Danny: If this didn't answer your question, please let me know via PM and I'll help you track down your stuff.
Are you looking in DS or Poser format folders?
The zip should include installation instructions, which should pretty much be "unzip to your Daz content folder, wherever you specified that during installation - typically MyDaz3DLibrary". If you didn't change this or any other option (such as not installing several hundred gigs of Daz data on your OS drive) then it should work fine if you follow the instructions that came with the item(s).
This does seem like a really straight forward thing, but I'm with Danny in that I am installing third party content (tried a few items from OptiTex and some from ShareCG) into the My Daz 3D Library and Daz doesn't recognize that the new folder or contents are even in there. It doesn't help that it looks like Windows 10 is doing some kind of weird "cloud" storage thing where Daz 4.9 is installing all the content through the installer into dozens of different, randomly numbered folders within a greater folder called that is, despite the name, completely located on my computer. They work fine, but my inner librarian is horrified by the haphazardness of the organization. Mostly, though, we must be doing something wrong in putting things in that folder that is obvious to the more computer savy but baffling to us.
Are you trying to install 3rd-party content into the Daz Connect structure? That won't work, you need to install them into the regular content folders. The key thing is to make sure that the Data and Runtime folders get mwerged with the existing ones and not placed in a subfolder. For example, if your content folder is called "My Library", you should have "My Library\Data", not "My Library\Content\Data".
You're right, I was trying the Daz Connect folder, so good to know that's a dead end. Thanks! I figured this out for poses, at least. I simply took the DSON and image files out of the folder they were in and put them directly in the runtime without any subfolders. Then I added that runtime folder as a base directory for the DAZ Studio Formats by right clicking on that under the Content Library tab. From there the runtime folder appears and they can be sorted into whatever category directories you like. That works fine for poses but I'll have to experiment with the clothing. They seem to have a lot more folders and subfolders and I'm not sure which items to remove and which to keep.
Seems like there should be an easier way to do this, but I guess I haven't figure it out yet.
I wouldn't define a DS-format content folder under Runtime, that's the sort of thing that will eventually end up with nested content folders. Keep the DS formats outside of Runtime.
Success! Maybe it's a Windows 10 thing, or something I and some others have inadvertantly changed, but we have two My Daz 3D Library folders. One is under your user name, the other under public, so C:/Users/Public/Public Documents/My DAZ 3D Library. I was trying to use the one under my own user name but DAZ was pulling from the public documents folder. Once I figured this out, this particular video proved very helpful in manually installing third party content
And so far no trouble yet. Thanks everyone for your help on this one.
Hi all
i am trying to install some third party content. i downloaded it and unziped it it. inside was a My Library folder and some read mes. i have tried to merge it with the My Library folder in both

im using windows 7
please help
Thank you for this thread it has solved the problems I was having trying to install content into DS 4.9.
The problem I was having was that I didn't know the content directory was in the C:/User/Public I was
looking in the My Documents folder where it used to be, but now I know.
I had the same problem with Poser 11 when I first got it but it's in the same place as DAZ 4.9.
So thank you all so much.![laugh laugh](http://www.daz3d.com/forums/plugins/ckeditor/js/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/teeth_smile.png)

Hi, everyone. Anyone on this thread a Mac user? I'm also having issues and unfortunately the Windows fixes don't do me much good. I follow the same principles as the Windows solutions; the downloads unzip into the Downloads folder and then I've been dragging them to what seems the appropriate folder(s) at the end of Macintosh HD/Users/Shared/My Daz 3D Library. Since many of the folder names duplicate what's already on the drive (e.g. data, Runtime, Props, etc) I've been drilling down until I find a folder with a unique name and dropping it in. Is this what's screwing me up? Other info: I'm running DS 4.9 and my Mac is running the Sierra OS (10.12.1). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is driving me bonkers. I installed poses this way, and they are not showing up under my library, and the search bar seems really unhelpful. I'm getting really discouraged with Daz and third party content. is there a good way to actually find something you loaded in daz?
Where, exactly, did the poses end up on disc?
the problem may happen,, each user may use different path as root directory to isntall third pirty contents.
to help you,, need to know where you actually installed the package.as absolute path.
then we need to assign those root path which Installed contents, as root directory (DAZ contents directory and Poser contents directory) by DAZ Content directory manager. (both of Poser contents and DAZ native) then DS can show you each contents in Content library.

show yousr setting pic usually help to tell others how you set your root directory for daz studio.
I use this program on Sharecg >>> http://www.sharecg.com/v/71453/browse/10/Software-and-Tools/Daz-Content-installer-from-Zips
Make a folder on your desktop and call it 3D to Install. Place all the zips you want to install in this folder. Only zips if you have rars convert to zips. Need a program to make zips for free google 7-zip.
Next Unzip program it can be saved anywhere you want just put it in its own folder on your desktop and double click on it. Point program to the 3D to install folder where your zips are and also point the program where your Daz runtime is located and then click Install>> this program will do the rest. Next time you use this program it will remember your settings and all you have to do is hit Install.
Sit back and enjoy some Coffie or a beverage of your choice. This will save you headaches of reinstalling hundreds of third party 3d stuff you get from other sites that wont install with DIM.
That program looks awesome, will try it.even when i look within each folder and copy within my library to the seperate folders like people, runtime, etc third party content is still almost impossible to find once installed. Will try this! Thanks!
I have the same problem. Many read me's says that you should merge the "My Library" from zip with your "My Library". But I don't even have My Library folder. It's easy when there only "data" folder to merge, but sometimes there is many folders in "My Librari" like Figures, etc and I have no idea where to put them.
Try my free "Rendo Installer": Download it here: http://4eyes.code66.se/?p=7775
Merge the contents of the main content/zip folder into your main content folder (whatever it's name). If you don't have a My Library, you have to have something that is the main content folder...and that is where you put everything. Also if that is the case, you should probably create a separate folder just for 3rd party content...and map it in Studio.
What methods are people using to LOCATE installed third-party content? I can easily open a zip file (don't even have to unzip it), select all items, and drop in Content Library or Runtime. What I used to do then was "Scan Known Directories for Files" then it would scan for and highlight any and all folders and files that had been added. From what I understand 4.9 does not have the highlights anymore, so what steps do you take after that? I stopped using DS in general since 4.9 came out and miss it so much. Seriously off-putting, would appreciate any help.
I have one contentfolder where all third party stuff goes, easy to find there
While I appreciate the tip, that is not an option for me. I have been cultivating my Content Library in this fashion (with my 3rd party runtime inside my content library folder), since DS3 Pro. I am not about to redo my runtime. Regardless, that still doesn't change the fact that I have to locate it within the software, by hand.
Create your own meta data when you install then them, if you want to find it through smart content, otherwise Content Browser works very good (which I use most of the time anyway)
No I don't really care if it shows up in the Smart Content pane or not. I am pretty content to continue using the Content Library pane. My issue is that once I drag n drop the contents of a zip file into the Content Library folder, how do I locate the items in DS? Like I said I used to "Scan Known Directories for Files". Chances are that it won't even show up in the smart content pane if it doesn't have metadata, but how do I then locate it in the Content Library pane, without manually searching through the folders? Unless, is that what you (Totte, or other people) are doing? Manually examining the folders in the zip file, then manually searching for those folders in the content library pane? I mean, it is not all that different from before, when I was looking for a blue or yellow highlight as I scroll through the endless numbers of folders, instead I would be looking for a specific folder, alphabetically. I was just hoping there would be a better solution, seeing as how we had one in the previous versions of DS.
Best way: Open a copy of the zip and look what directories it contains
I was afraid of that. Such a shame, nothing but a step backwards.
That is why I still have kept 4.8. But open a ticket asking for that function back, the more of us that do the more chance they will notice.
Yup still got my 4.8 too, was just hoping I could upgrade to 4.9 eventually. Will do, even though I asked several times already, almost immediately after 4.9 came out. Thanks anyways. Happy rendering all!
