Content Directory for 4.23

Did anything change for the content paths for 4.23? I was using 4.10 for years on windows 7 (D:) , didn't touch daz3d for the past 2 years. I wanted to try out genesis 9, so I went into my old windows 7 boot drive, installed genesis 9, and everything was fine except for rendering. I guess NVIDIA stopped updating drivers for windows 7, and caused rendering issues. So, I installed Daz 4.23 on windows 10 (C:)  along with all the starter essentials on C:. I am aware you can add base directories, as I had added my poser directory no problem on windows 7. I will reiterate, I had NO PROBLEMS on windows 7. Now, when I try to add MY LIBRARY from the D: drive, as a base directory on the C: drive (Win 10), it refuses to load any of the figure/scene files, and it doesn't give you an option to locate the files anymore. According to the directory on the fresh 4.23 install, the path is still C:\Users\NAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library. So why is this struggling to load files/morphs/props/? I've always manually installed, and there is a lot of renderosity Stuff and ShareCG vehicles, but it was all still in the proper heirarchy as it worked before. D:\Users\NAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library. There has to be some hiccup in the pathing. Any clues/tips would be appreciated.

Thank you.

What does "refuses to load" mean. Do you get an error or what?

And what does you Daz Studio path look like in Preferences?

  • All the Daz studio paths in preferences (content directory manager) are exactly as above, My Daz library and My library in the C: Drive, and the added My library from the D: drive.

    C:\Users\NAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

    D:\Users\NAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

Yes it refuses to load, as in the error comes up that the files are missing. Then in the error window, right under where it says files are missing, it says Files found: then lists all of the files it says it can't find. in the list, the paths start at Runtime or Data. For example:

    /data/Tim82/Hotrod/Main Body/Main Body.dsf

Since my added base directory is the D: drive, right alongside the C: drive one,

I go into D: drive (where I told DAZ studio the library would be)

    D:\Users\NAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\Content\data\Tim82\Hotrod\Main Body        Mainbody.dsf

    There's the file

So why is the error leaving out the beginning \Users\NAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\Content part of the path when looking to load the file?

I even re-downloaded the product, and manually installed it into the C: Drive With the proper Library/content hierarchy, and it is still giving a loading error. In addition, i am having the postgreSQL issue, So I can't connect to DAZ server,  maybe its a metadata update problem?

DAZ studio used to let us locate the files when it couldn't find them. Now it just makes us click OK and then loads up a big grey blob.

Do you log into Daz Studio?

And what is the full error text from the log Help > Troubleshooting > View Log?

For the PostgreSQL error, did you install it? It is an installer of its own. How are you installing all your produces. You mentioned manually doing this on, but do you usually use something else? Once you open the report, save it as a .txt and add it as an attachment to your post.

Within DazStudio it will only show relative paths which is why the path starts with "data".

However, in the configuration as you have described it seems that the Hotrod product has been installed incorrectly. The "Content" folder commonly found in Daz Product zips should not be copied across. The correct path for that file should be: D:\Users\NAME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library\data\Tim82\Hotrod\Main Body        Mainbody.dsf

I've been testing some things on the new install and nothing but more problems. At first I thought it was some issue with dazconnect and its DRM-style features. I obtained a new character from the DAZ3D shop, and had the DIM installer install it itself. So I load up the genesis 9 base character, and attempt to load the shape of the new character, and...nothing. not even an error, just a quick flicker of a tiny window, and nothing. So I attempt to load the entire character as a new figure...which results in a base G9 model being loaded with the new character's materials, but not the shape. There are also figures in the My DAZ3D Library folder, but the entire character is called ACTOR, and the morph is labeled SHAPE (in the thumbnails). They did the same thing. I remember way back in Victoria 4.2, that after the base figure was loaded, you had to load morphs right away.

The postgreSQL was installed via DIM installer. I re-installed it twice, and seems to be working because Login is greyed out un the connect tab. So I was able to "update" the metadata and the database manager/install offline files

To keep things simple, I'll upload a log file using only files installed by DIM, on the same drive DAZ 4.23 is on.

Here's exactly what I did from the beginning of the log file.

    1. Shut down DAZ studio

    2. Open Daz Studio

    3. Loaded Genesis 9 full-body actor character obtained from DAZ Shop (G9 base loaded, w/ new materials but no new shape)

    4. Loaded Genesis 9 base character

    5. With G9 selected in scene hierarchy window (top right), attempted to load full-body shape of new DAZ shop character (shape and material was not applied/loaded)

    6. loaded one of the pre-made G9 Characters (loaded just fine)

    7. Left DAZ studio running with 3 characters in scene.

I'd like to solve this problem first, it's pretty important, because these are supposed to be official/certified/1st party/compatible products.

Are you getting erros or just not seeing the expected result? I don't immediately see any missing file messages in that log - it does appear that you have installed Genesis 9 Starter Essentilas through Daz Studio itself, rather than manually or through DIM.

Yeah, I mentioned that I let the DIM install genuine DAZ files itself, to remove the human error factor. Now that I can log into the server, in DAZ studio, I can probably install from there, but the problem is the separate DIM-installed products still won't load morphs/shapes. So G9 base will load up, but can't apply any characters or materials to the figure. No errors, just can't apply BodyApply.duf  files, and then it starts asking for texture locations. So as someone mentioned earlier, It might be better to put the files straight into MY LIBRARY and not CONTENT. stuff from renderosity usually comes in a zip file. Open the Zip file, and the first folder is CONTENT, and then inside you get DATA, RUNTIME, PEOPLE folders. Used to be an easy drag and drop affair. So, I pasted the three folders inside CONTENT, and I also put them in MY LIBRARY. The ones installed  in MY LIBRARY, actually loaded. But the separate Daz DIM installer, installs stuff from the DAZ shop under CONTENT, which just won't load properly. Either gray blobs or blank base characters.

the errors I mentioned in the original post had to do with me trying to add my other hard drive DAZ library as a base directory. But I'd rather sort out this problem first, of the Store-bought stuff not being able to be used.

Yes, the Content folder in zips is a placeholder for whatever your content directory is called.

  • So the CONTENT folder is a good bulk of the problem, I will have to make some changes with that. Was reading:  https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/650301/can-t-apply-any-shaping-or-morph-solved,  and it was mentioned that DAZcentral and DIM64, and DAZ studio itself are all capable of installing files purchased from the DAZ shop, and somehow they conflict with each other. With every new DAZ studio install, we get two folders:

    My Library

    My DAZ 3D Library

I usually drag and Drop/manual install the Data/people/runtime folders right where they need to go (because I Archive all my stuff on an external drive). If not manually installing, then I use  DAZ Install Manager (64-bit).exe

So get this, a renderosity product can be copied into My Library, and be able to be loaded no problem. And a product installed by DIM cannot be loaded properly from that folder. A Character purchased through DAZ shop, can be loaded as its own (Actor) figure properly as long as its loaded from My DAZ 3d Library. But trying to load the shape morphs to turn Genesis 9 into the Character does not work no matter which folder I try to load from.

Just going to have to manually install DAZ shop files to my library, but leave out the CONTENT folder. Seems like the only way I can get it to work properly.

    Thanks for the help anyways.

Instaling threough Daz Studio (Daz Connect) uses a diffrent location from Install Manager/Daz central (which share settings, and are indeed the same core code). They don't conflict, but the Connect install takes precedence over any other so if something goes agley with its files (fail to decrypt, moved) then the product will fail to load even if the DFIM/Daz Central files are still correctly in place. There is no conflict between them, however - merely potential waste of disc space.

With every new DAZ studio install, we get two folders:

    My Library

    My DAZ 3D Library

Yes, those are the defaults for user files and installed content, respectively, though the names and locations are not fucntionally significant - only the relative path within the content directory matters.

I usually drag and Drop/manual install the Data/people/runtime folders right where they need to go (because I Archive all my stuff on an external drive). If not manually installing, then I use  DAZ Install Manager (64-bit).exe

Which will give the same result if done correctly.

So get this, a renderosity product can be copied into My Library, and be able to be loaded no problem. And a product installed by DIM cannot be loaded properly from that folder. But trying to load the shape morphs to turn Genesis 9 into the Character does not work no matter which folder I try to load from.

This suggests that the isntallation to My Library is incorrectly configured - most likely DIM is pointed one folder too deep or too shallow - as there is no functional difference between the two locations.

Just going to have to manually install DAZ shop files to my library, but leave out the CONTENT folder. Seems like the only way I can get it to work properly.

Check the path settings in DIM - I am sure they will not exactly match those in DS.

    Thanks for the help anyways.
