Speed up DAZ Studio

What is the best way to speed up Daz Studio? Specifially:

1) Content database.. If I click on all under products or files, it takes a while to load everything (sometimes over 2 minutes), then if I do a search and then delete the search text it takes another minute or so to re-populate.

2) Loading items (characters, props, scenes, etc). This can also take some time. some characters take 1-2 minutes to load in and the more I load, the slower it gets (obviously)

Based on my questions and specs below, is there anything I can do to speed Daz up? Would an SSD help noticably? If so, would I need to have everything on it (Program, content database, runtime)? What is an SSD runtime isn't feasible, but the other two things are?

  • A lot of it has to do with how fast your hard drives are, rather than system memory and video cards. Even then, there is also the slight time lag from when something actually loads into Studio and the time it appears in the viewport.

  • OK, Lets say I upgrade to SSD, what NEEDS to go there to speed that up? Just the database? The program? the runtime? I could easily get my program and database on an SSD, but the runtime is too large unless I get an expensive SSD.

    Minimal...database.

    Ideal...database and program.

    Ultimate...all of it (but you would need a very large SSD...content has a way of eating up drive space...kind of like a group of college kids at an all you can eat pizza bar).

    Yeah, my current runtime is 1.01TB and over 3million files.

    will the database and program install be a noticable improvement on an SSD without the runtime moving to an SSD as well?

  • OS/DAZ Studio/database on the SSD, Runtime on its own high speed drive, and regular defragmenting of the Runtime's drive is probably going to be the best approach I can think of.

  • This is more of a question than a suggestion, but can you split your content into different Runtimes, the way you can in Poser?

    Would that help?

    Crikey. Mine is 75 GB and 125,000 files. I thought that was a lot. Oy.

    I'm lucky too my Smith Micro Animate Studio Pro, Poser Pro 2014, and DAZ Studio 4.9 libraries total less than 30GB. I think my Unity 3D Asset is more than that. My system SSD is only 223GB so I had to buy an SSD to USB adaptor for my old 80GB SSD and use if for my Windows 10 'Library' folders.
