'File does not exist', but it does... (Help a noob?)
Hello. I would be grateful if someone would help me. I mistakenly moved some folders without quite knowing what I was doing (I thought I was copying a shortcut onto my desktop for daz files but it went wrong, and I now seem to have DAZ files dispersed around various locations. Including duplications and similarly named files, several being private content things I downloaded from Share CG and attempted to install (usually without success, I might add). So I am rather confused.
The primary problem now is that when I open DAZ, I see the content thumbnails in the it bleeps and a message comes up 'Could not open the file (file name). But the files do exist, and right clicking and scrolling down to 'browse to file location' takes you there. For example the Genesis 3 figure, it tells me, is in:
this pc > local disk (:) > users > public > public documents > My DAZ 3d Library > people > Genesis 3 females.
This will open a new character, in a new file, but new characters can't be imported into existing scenes.
Since created since this problem arose open (not in 'user > public', but under my user documents. (this pc > local disk (c:) users . Gordon > documents. Daz 3d > studio > my library > scenes.)
Other ones seem lost, but can be located by doing a search on my computer, so they are not lost per-se, but DAZ can't seem to find them.
I would like to consolidate my files in the right place. Can anyone help me fix it, firstly, so that all the content opens in the same place? Where should the root file/directory be located? (Files added to the content in the public user location do not show in the content box in the interface since the stat of the problem.
Secondly, is there a way of showing the files and their locations within the interface, so that things like morphs can be located by browsing through that way?
Opening the file location of DAZ Studio from the icon on the desktop reveals it to be at:
This PC>Local Disk (C:) > Programme Files> Daz 3d > Dazstudio4.
Thanks in advance,
Gordon.

Scenes, and the files you see in the content panes, are generally lists of assets and settings. The basic figure and its morphs are in the \Data\Creator\Figure folder in your content directory and I suspect it's those that are not being found, not the user files you are clicking on - if so the missing file will be a .dsf file, not a .duf file. The Data folder needs to be in the root (not a sub-folder) of a Daz Studio Format content dierctory. In the same way textures will usually be in \Runtime\Textures and the Runtime folder should be in the root of a content directory - there may also be Poser files in there, in which case it needs to be in the root of a Poser format content directory (usually you will use the same folder for both kinds of content directory). Don't move things that are inside the Data and Runtime folders or there is a good chance of breaking references.
Thanks. I will have to look into things to see how helpful that is. I'm not sure where the content directory is located, of if it is located where it is supposed to be located, if indeed it is in one place.
It's far from obvious what goes where.
I also sometimes get the message flashing up 'Configuration of the system has changed. To use content installed using Daz Connect the content-owner must re-authenticate'.
What does that mean exactly? What should I do.
The configuration error means that DS is no longer recognising the system and wants to connect to the daz site to confirm your account, otherwise you won't be able to use any of the (so far, few) encrypted items. The release build has been problematic in this regard - the public beta has a fix that si being tested, and that seems to work better, but opening one (release or public beta) after the other will always trigger to error due to the changes that have been made.
