Odd request... convert clothes from Gen3 back to V4?

Has anyone successfully found a way to convert clothing from newer generations back to older?  It sounds wierd, but I have an old scene I'd like to try something with.  The item is a Genesis3 clothing that I would like to fit on my V4.  Any advice would be appreciated.  In the age of RSSY writing upgrade coversion scripts just wondered if anyone tried....thanks!

I use the V4 clone shapes or Autofit it to a figure which has one then convert the clothing to a prop or just export an obj

then use Poser if I am keen otherwise temporarily convert V4 rigging to weighmapping and autofit it, don't save V4 just the clothing as a support asset, it will conform to a fresh legacy rigged V4 and autofollow any injected morphs without needing to run the transfer active morph projection dialogue

To V4, no. To V3, yes, but the same process would work with V4..

This is Jim Burton's Glamorous Vicki 3 wearing a G8F Kaftan. How? That's where the effort came in. See this thread :  https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/655676/tutorial-making-triax-figures-from-old-parametric-characters/p1

    Regards,

    Richard.

Although there are clothes converters that go to the older, parametric rigged figures it is not as straight-forward as converting to weight-mapped figures because you cannot just project the weights across - the influence of joints is controlled by limited geometrical regions and it will not always be possible to place those in a way that works with an arbitrary model, many Genesis items simply won't rig that way. I am not aware of a tool that handles the shape conversion in that diection, and the rigging would probably be very awkard.

    Threads merged.

  • Thanks!  I figured since someone cracked the V4-->Gen3 that it should work in the other direction... theoretically.   Not sure how to ask RiverSoft or Sickle Yeild if they could do that...  they seem to have the process down.

Thank you richardandtracy and wendyluvscatz, great ideas.  just hoping that there is, it's an old file I haven't opened for 10 years, but I just thought I'd "remaster" it. :)  Many animations for V4 seem to work smother to me for some reason.

Thanks for merging the threads, Richard.  Somehow I manged to copy it in two threads!  Glad someone could do it.
