Blurry Iray pictures

I don't know what I've done wrong, but suddenly all I'm rendering in Iray has turned uncomfortably blurry and not as sharp and nice looking at as earlier. And I don't know what I've might have touched since the settings are still a mystery to me and I hardly dare touching anything.

What can have gone wrong and can I fix it?

  • Do you have Depth of Field set on in the camera?

    Sounds like you've turned on Depth of Field.  DoF is somewhere in the camera settings, I believe.  If you have it on, you have to adjust the focal distance and fStop parameters to put things into (and out of) focus in the scene.

    Like said above check DOF in camera settings.

    If you want sharper edges in your render you can also lower Pixel Filter Radius to 1. from the default which is 1.5. In render settings>Filtering.

    Check in the "Filtering" area. "Pixel Filter Radius" is default at 1.50 pixels.

    That will pull some color data from 1.0 of each adjoining pixels to the target pixel. (Eg, looking blurry if the value is much higher than 1.50.)

    {Though, when tested, 0.50 pulls from surrounding pixels too... so it may not truly be a "Radius", as in, from the center of the pixel. Seems more like 1.50 beyond the pixel radius, as 0.00 and 0.10 and 0.33 all seem to honestly pull just the pixel-value.}

    Needless to say, that value controls the whole screen AA, in essence. Higher values = higher blurry images overall.

    1.00 is like "AA", in video-games.

    1.50 is like "soften", in photoshop.

    2.50 is like a standard "blur", in any program.

    10.00 is like gausian-blur 20px in art programs.
