Importing Metadata "Group as new" vs "Group content as new"

JD_MortalJD_Mortal Posts: 760

I don't understand the double cryptic options...

"Group as new" and "Group content as new" is the same thing... Everything is "content", and "everything" is assumed when "Group as new"...

"Content" we asume is the "content library", which is not relative to "metadata". "Content" is, instead, related to "file location structure".

I imagine these might be better...

"Group ONLY new as new" or "Group ALL as new". (Notice the redundant "Content" is not present, which only adds confusion.)

Another option to "Mark all as USED" (or not new), would be great.

However, since the database fails to work the first time, showing only 32 items for me, everything looks new when I do it the second time. No matter what one is selected. Instead, there should just be a "FLAG" for each item, if it has ever been used. Then, in the "smart content" or in the "content library", there should simply be an option to "Highlight unused content", which is what we apparently want it to do anyways.

Even better to have set states...

NEW = Unseen, Unused

SEEN = Tried it, but have not saved it ever, in any of the "save as" options. (Eg, not in a scene or in any other form.) {not highlighted or flagged. Just removes teh NEW status.}

USED = You have used it in a scene, or some other location that you saved, somewhere. (Thus, it is active content.) {Marked, only when selected. Replaces "NEW" highlights, since those are irrelevant, while this is selected. This obviously ALSO removes the NEW status.}

FAVORITE = Obviously, a favorite "we" set. {Same as USED, but may not be used.} (Not NEW or SEEN, but may alos be USED)

HIDDEN = Hidden, for whatever reason. (Broken, old, ugly, unwanted clutter.) {Simply hides it from the lists, seen only when "view hidden" is selected, in the same tree, but NOT showing unhidden things, as they would bury the hidden things.} (Not NEW or USED or SEEN or FAVORITE, but may be any below... Hidden to keep them from accidental use, except for testing.)

PROJECT ________ = A user-set project tree, which only includes these items. Same tree-view, but only including your project items. Not specific to "development" of "content for resale", but intended as "us" to setup projects that we may be working-on, using DAZ as one of the components of the project. (Eg, My characters and outfits and scenes. But ONLY my things that I selected for use in the project. Found in the same locations they would normally be located, without the clutter of "everything".)

DEVELOPING = Anything "we" are developing, which is not yet a "daz product" or "free product" or "other product".

DEVELOPED = Anything "we" have developed, and has a product-ID of some kind... Daz = Daz, Fictitious = Free, Private = Other. (The content which we might have to "fix", or see what is wrong, in comparison to the "released items", which are obviously items in other locations that can't normally be "edited", or should not be edited.)

P.S. As it stands now, I am cluttering-up my database with these "tags" and "groups" for projects. Things which can't easily be "undone". However, they can be easily "done", with the new DAZ settings. Flags would be better and offer one-click removal and easy drop-in options, from a list. Since DAZ is all about production speed.

  • Group as affects only the seelcted files, Group Content As also includes associated content automatically.

    The grouping system isn't the same as the old New filag - items stay in the group until removed. You can of course crate new groups to cover any combinations you like.

    See these pages in the docs:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/interface/panes/smart_content/products_page/results_view/start#context_menu
    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/interface/panes/smart_content/products_page/results_view/start#group
    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/interface/panes/smart_content/information_panel/tags_page/start

  • Ah, I was wrong - the New flag on files is cleared by simply clicking on an item (and unlike the old system it can be restored by adding the item back into the group, which is handy for mis-clicks).

    Hmm... Still not getting it... Everything is usually selected when re-importing.

    "Associated content"... Like shirt colors for a shirt? Or like all clothes for G3F if G3F is selected?

    Again, my issue is the oddity of the wording, in relation to what it is actually doing. Nothing indicates "content". (Associated or not.)

    With the constant database mess-up issue, of it losing all items, and having to double-reinstall every time, over and over again, when adding anything... It makes the whole function useless. Everything is always "new". No way to make it all "not new", except for doing it all again, which makes you have to do it all twice again, leaving you not knowing what is actually new, ever...

    Also noticed that setting a color as a backdrop does not actually work (In 3DeLight). It just always renders white, or 100% alpha, or an image. However, no colors. But it does change the viewport color.

    Then there is the issue with partial words not returning any searches. I have to know the exact names of things to find them... Can't search for "lig" and get "light blue", "lighter", "ligaments", "lindo's cool car"... (Only on the "smart content" search-bar. But it does in the "content library", because you can actually hit "search".)

    Products have content.

    Viewport colour is for working - for example, a dark backdrop is useful in wireframe mode most of the time. If you want to render against a colour isntead of an alpha user Window>Panes(Tabs)>Environment to set the backdrop to a solid colour. Vieport colour is an aplication setting and will stick, environment is a scene setting and will not stick (though by default it will be saved in the scene file).

    use a colon followed by a wildcard to search for parttial matches.
