Alternatives for Photoshop Bridge

Someone knows if there are a way to use another software in the "Photoshop Bridge" instead of Photoshop?

I have lots of 2D softwares in my PC but I lack Photoshop... And I don't like their new subscription system...

  • What are you wanting to use the bridge for? You can save renders to disc and open them in anything, you can load new textures created in any editor through the Surfaces pane.

I want to send the texture of my model to the 2D software, modify it and then send it back to DAZ and see the changes.

I already open textures in GIMP, but often they get "stuck" and DAZ stops showing me the modified ones.

To do that without the bridge, open the image(s) in your editor, then set those same images as your textures in the surfaces pane of daz. As you make changes to your images in your editor, save the image (overwriting existing with the same name), right click the surface pane > reload images.

As I already said I DO all what you described. My problem is: When I modify the texture in GIMP, save it and then refresh it in DAZ, the image doesn't change!

DAZ keeps showing the old version of the texture and I have to close and reopen DAZ to see the changes. It looks like it keeps a "cache" of the texture and shows it, not matter what!

I hoped that the bridge could help me solve this problem.

For some refreshing works...for others, it just doesn't.

I can get a refresh to work about 1 out 30 times...the other 29, nope...it just sits there.

I've taken to renaming them...origtex...origtexA...origtexB...origtexA1...and so on.  The letter is the 'major' revision/edit and the number is the 'tweaks' to that.  Then, when I'm happy with it, rename it the origtex (or if it is an edit to an inclueded texture for something, then it gets a new name/description added).

It's the same that I'm forced to do if I want to keep working on my projects...

This means there are no escape? I thought that the bridge could be useful for that, maybe with some different software...

Neither the photoshop or zbrush bridges work well for me. In zbrush, it works fine, only once. If I try to make another morph after that first one, it won't work, no matter where I try to put the morph, or what I try to name it as. I have to close daz studio, reopen scene, then make another morph. Photoshop plugin works about the same as what you are going through manually. Sometimes updates, sometimes I have to close and reopen to get it to refresh.

Thank you, I remembered it could be done, but never thought to right click the surface panel /sigh

Are you using the Iray renderer for the viewport by chance? Sometimes I find I have to change draw styles and back again for the maps to refresh in the viewport even though they've updated in the surfaces pane.

No, I'm using the OpenGL renderer and I don't use the AUX Viewport.

In my numberless attempts to solve the issue I found out that re-saving the texture with IrfanView (just opening and saving it where it is) DAZ finally shows the updated texture.

And I can't figure out why this happens!

Weird. Might be something strange happening when the files are saved from Gimp. I haven't used Gimp in ages so unfortunately I can't help on that front. Hopefully someone who does this method with that app can chime in.

I am kind of in the same boat,, about wanting other software to do the same thing, as that any software should be able to is they can,, I have photoshop CS2 as it's free, and thought that if any thing that the bridge would have been made so as to address all versions with compatability but that's not the case and the only versions are from CS5 and abouv,, this is why I am here seeing if that there is an alternative to this, as it's "seems like" a blackmail attempt, to get people to get a photoshop license when none should ever be needed,, for something that says it's free, as that I do understand that SC2 isn't supported any longer ,, but that seeing how far back the bridge was available that it should have been as well for the earlier versions ,,nope,,.bugger it.

They should use gimp or any other,,as well free, no license needed software, this is possibly how they make their cash more than selling what they have, as to get it from Adobe for having people need their software .
