Having trouble understanding the download process...

Originally I was downloading products using DAZ3DIM onto DAZ Studio 4.8. The Content pane was an absolute mess, everything disorganized and filed under obscure folders. Searches sometimes worked, but did not find all products. The "Smart Content" pane wasn't showing anything at all, none of my downloaded products. It was a headache so I quit for a while.

Now, I'm seeing that the Smart Content pane is fully operational. I haven't checked to see if it displays all of my content but it looks like it might. However, I've installed all of the content I own on my computer and Smart Content believes it isn't installed, so I need to double-click the grayed-out image and install it.

My questions: 1) Does DAZ Studio have no further use for the DAZ3DIM? 2) When I install my content directly through DAZ 3D, will it ignore the existence of the files I downloaded through DAZ3DIM and create a duplicate set of files that use twice as much space?

  • 1) if the files are found DS will use the local copy, if it matches the Connect copy, rather than downloading. 2) if there is a Connect version that will be used in preference to the DIM/manual version.

However, you may be able to get the content management system to see your installed files - go to the Content Library pane and open its option menu (the lined button in the corner, or right-click its tab) and select Content DB Maintenance, then check the Reimport Metadata box and click Accept, then Accept in the next dialogue.
