No longer able to drag in scne panel

All of a sudden I can not move assets in the scene panel to parent to another node. I even rebooted my computer, but nothing changed. How do I get rid of this "Prohibited" sign?

  • If you are using the beta see http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log#4_23_1_13

In geernal you will get better screenshots if you use the Snip And Sketch  tool rather than trying to take a photo.

    No the beta, but 4.23.01

And yes, a screenshot of course would have been better but I couldn't get it to show the "Prohibited" sign. That's the mouse cursor.

I just copied the files from an installer file into my DAZ folder but not even this changed anything. :-(

  • Have you tried reloading the UI layout (Window>Workspace>Select Layout)?

  • LauritaLaurita Posts: 239

    Yes, I did

  • Try the instructions here (if you are on Windows) https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/9051566/#Comment_9051566 for launching a completely clean session (you won't have any content, if you don't use the default paths, so you may need to use primitives or lights/cameras to test).

Oh, this actually worked. At least one successful step, many thanks Richard!

However the next steps in the thread you've linked sadly didn't bring me any furher. I removed

    actions.dsx
    customactions.dsx
    layout.dsx
    menus.dsx
    toolbars.dsx
    startupscript.dsa

and ran Plugins Load Config. The problem sadly prevails. I also removed everything from the Appsdata folder as an experiment but it didn't help, neither did remapping all my Content directories to empty ones.

Anyway, as you've mentioned in that thread I attach a log file, maybe this will be helpful.

I found something related which I can not understand neither: When I open the "Open File" Dialogue a window appears which at least looks like a regular Win11 explorer window. However when I try to move files within this window the mouse pointer changes to the same "Prohibited" symbol as within the Scene Panel.

This only occurs when opening the Explorer from Daz Studio, outside of DAZ everything works as it should do.

Things aren't getting better sadly. After tinkering around for a bit not only did I lose my Visual menus but also (probably more important) the ability to open the Content Directory manager under Preferences. The directories however are still there. Solved.

I double checked with a backed up 4.22 install and all of my problems appear just the same.

  • Are you a Premier member? You seem to be loadign the plug-ins there, but they are not activated. I also see a couple of other plugins that are unfamiliar to me. What does the log look like with the third-party plug-ins disabled?

I am a Premier Member, but disabled the plugins because I do not intend to stay at Premier.

Here's a new log file with essentally all plugins disabled I dared to. Used the oppotunity to delete some of the old leftovers. Didn't do anything, btw.

I just disabled absolutely all plugins and emptied my AppsData folder. The problem still occurs.

  • That probably means it is an entry in the registry, assuming the plug-ins were cleared (you still had some third-party add-ons in the last log).

Oh, apparently I am not the only one with this particular problem.

And I dug a bit further:

    1. The Public Beta works flawlessly

    2. After backing up my registry I completely deleted the entries under HKEY_Current_User/Software/DAZ/Studio4 . When I started DAZ without  any registry entry the problem still remains.

I have a gut feeling the problem is rooted in the most recent Windows update.

  • Hah, yeah, that's me.

I have the same problem, btw, someone from Reddit pointed me to this thread. Thought it was the scene itself that had the issue, but even starting a new scene with primitives has the same problem. Didn't have this problem last week.

I have a deadline to make, so can't fiddle with Daz too much right now, but will try Richard's help later/tomorrow.

(also, why the hell cant I open the attachments on this forum? weird, must be a Firefox add-on)

  • Please both post your current logs. It pretty much has to be a setting or somekind of add-on - and to affect the system file dialogues I would think a plug-in, not content or a script.

Yeah, that's me. I have the same problem. I'm using 4.23.0.1, seems to be the latest version. I think I updated... I dunno, maybe last week? Two weeks ago? Havent had this issue, or noticed it anyway, until today.
I reloaded the UI layout, didnt help.

Would a full clean install help..? Will be a pain to re-install all 3rd party content again, but maybe I can use this opportunity to organize everything better.

  • Thanks, well you certainly seem to have killed al thrid-party plug-ins this time (the previous log had'nt). It does seem to be loading a scene on launch - is that an auto-load sceen or did you launch DS by double-clicking the scene file? If it was the latter does starting the application directly help? There certainly seem to be a lot of content warnings - is the scene actually loading OK?

Hey Richard, first of all, I appreciate you taking the time to help out. This is not a huge issue, but annoying enough that it made me post on Reddit about it, which says a lot, haha.

This is the first time Ive posted a log, I think the third-party plug-ins bit was for the OP of this thread? Anyway, I pretty much always launch Daz just by clicking the app icon in the Windows Start menu. I might have started Daz directly by double clicking the scene file once yesterday..? Don't think so, but I might. Lots of deadlines this week, so I'm all over the place, switching between programs.

The scene is loading okay for me, there's a lot of third party characters in it though, some with missing textures and whatever. I use Daz to quickly pose a bunch of characters as reference for illustration, so Im usually not too bothered when a window pops up that something's missing or cant be found when loading in a character. Might be it came to bite me in the ass this time?

Plug-ins potentially applies to either of you, though it does seem that clearing them all out doesn't help. Content issues shouldn't be a factor, I would think, but on the other hand I don't know what might be causing this.

I turned off all the plugins (Help>About Installed Plugins) and restarted Daz. The problem is still there. In the end, this is a minor inconvenience, so I'm just going to ignore it for now and do a full clean install in the upcoming weeks.
Thanks for trying to help us out, Richard, its appreciated. And, just in case you were interested in seeing the log after turning them all off, here you go :)

  • One question, for both of you - are you using a fairly basic mouse or do you have one that requires its own drivers? What about any drawing tablets?

Drag and drop parenting has most likely been disabled for some reason

Right click the "Scene" pane's tab and mouse over "Parenting"

There is no parenting option for me, might be cause of turning off the Installed Plugins and turning them on again? But yeah, does not show up.

I didn't have to install drivers for my mouse afaik, Windows might have done that automatically though? It is a fairly standard mouse. I do have a Wacom Cintq drawing tablet, but I dont use it for Daz, I do everything in Daz with a mouse.

  • Having the drivers installed might conflict with the Qt code even if the hardware was not active, but Wacoms are pretty common so I would be surprised if it was the root cause.

I think that was ion the current beta, it hasn't yet made it to the general release.
